But the summer weather requires people to sweat to detoxify and remove moisture. If you stay in an air-conditioned room all day, although you feel very comfortable, it will cause certain harm to your body without detoxification through body metabolism. So what are the dangers of not sweating in summer?

First, heat and dampness stagnation, detoxification disorder

In Arctic countries or regions, every household has a Finnish sauna, and Finnish sauna is a necessity in daily life. The bathroom was humid, stuffy and hot. People were sweating profusely and their bodies turned red. They would sweat profusely for several times in one shower. Locals also say that taking a sauna and letting some blood out will make you feel more comfortable. This is also a kind of survival wisdom and a way of health preservation. Because the local winters are long and there is a lack of summer heat to consume energy, the excess energy is trapped in the body and people feel very uncomfortable. Therefore, the Finnish bath is equivalent to the artificial dog days of summer, where people can find the lack of bitter summer consumption.

Sweating is a metabolic detoxification pathway that cannot be ignored and also has a significant impact on mood. Some people sweat more than others when it is hot, when exercising, eating, or drinking. According to my observation, such people tend to be in good health, have stable emotions, and have smooth bowel movements.

In summer, people sweat less or not, and sweating is not smooth, which causes the accumulation of acidic metabolic products and acidification of body fluids. A body whose cells, tissues and organs are soaked in dirty body fluids is a fertile soil for the breeding of all kinds of diseases and sub-health. It is so easy to get sick as "holding an empty bowl or plate to hold something". To cure a disease, one must be good at adjusting the physical constitution, and to adjust the physical constitution, one must be good at analyzing the reasons for the imbalance in the physical constitution. This is to get back to the root of the problem and is a holistic concept.

Second, it affects energy metabolism

Long-term lack of sweat or poor sweating in summer will gradually and profoundly affect energy metabolism. When you sweat too much or are hungry, you will feel exhausted, anxious, and weak, which means you lack energy. Normal sweating in summer or after exercise is the energy consumption process of transforming Yang into Qi, which is called "Yang added to Yin to produce sweat" in Chinese medicine. Not sweating in the summer, little exercise in all seasons, and eating too many greasy meals, the surplus energy is converted into excess fat, which fills up the subcutaneous tissue - obesity, stuffs it into the abdomen - fat belly, flows into the blood - hyperlipidemia, sticks to the blood vessels - arteriosclerosis, fills up the liver - fatty liver, damages the pancreas - diabetes, etc. You don’t know until you hear it, and you’ll be shocked when you hear it. People now only pay attention to the importance of diet and exercise, but fail to see the importance of sweating and consumption in summer. What the ancients worried about was that the scorching heat and humidity in summer would consume Qi and damage the spleen, leading to loss of appetite, and that in autumn and winter there would be “little harvest.” Now, the excess energy, phlegm, dampness and blood stasis are left for storage in autumn and winter.

Third, it affects the circulation and metabolism of body fluids

In summer, less sweating or poor sweating will also affect the body's fluid circulation and metabolism. The flow of body fluids in and out must be balanced. If the intake is less, the consumption is more, and the excretion is more, the person will lack water, have more fire, too much heat, or be dry and astringent; if the intake is more, the consumption is less, and the excretion is less, the person will be fat, bloated, edematous, depressed, and filled with phlegm and dampness. Sweating is one of the important pathways of body fluid metabolism. Long-term poor sweating will also affect urination, resulting in less urine or frequent trips to the toilet without much urine, but no problems with urine routine tests. The human body is so amazing. If the sweat pores are blocked, urination will be hindered.

Swelling is also common in women, especially in the lower limbs, ankles, and feet. In the past, some hypertensive patients would experience improved blood pressure problems in summer, because blood vessels are softer and blood circulation flows smoothly in summer, which invisibly lowers blood pressure. Instead of making use of such good weather, we rely too much on air conditioning, acting like autumn in summer, and artificially affecting the elasticity of blood vessels. Add to that the lack of sweat and the internal flow of moisture, how can we not feel bloated and suffer from high blood pressure?

Fourth, the lung system is not smooth

In summer, less sweating or poor sweating will cause the nose, skin, large intestine and other parts of the lung system to function poorly. In summer, the skin and fur should be open and sweat should flow freely, "allowing the Qi to be released." Excessive use of air conditioning will close the skin and fur, and the lung system will be unable to release qi, which will often cause nasal congestion, sore throat, phlegm, chest tightness and abdominal distension, sticky stools, and difficulty urinating. Whether the functional system of nose, skin, large intestine and lungs is unobstructed depends on everyone's concerted efforts. If any door or window is closed abnormally, the system will become stuffy and unsmooth.

However, there are also many abnormal sweating that need attention. Sweating even when you are not hot or exercising is called spontaneous sweating, which is a sign of Qi deficiency. Such people are prone to fatigue, colds, and panic. Sweating as soon as you fall asleep at night is called night sweats, which is a sign of Yin deficiency. Such people are prone to tuberculosis infection and hot flashes in the five hearts. If you sweat on half of your body and not on the other half, you should be careful of a stroke. Sweating only on the front and back of the body is a sign of heart Qi deficiency, which is prone to palpitations, insomnia, dreaminess, and forgetfulness. Sweating only on the head and face is a sign of spleen and stomach stagnation, and internal heat, which is prone to irritability, bitter taste in the mouth, heaviness, and yellow urine.
