But psychologists have found that it’s not that aggressive people don’t want to control themselves, they’re just not good at controlling themselves. The study found that when there is a conflict, such as when someone insults an aggressive person, using a brain scanner to look at the brain activity of the aggressive person when being insulted, it was found that the part involved in self-control was actually more active than that of less aggressive people. It can be seen that aggressive people actually want to control themselves.

Baumeister and Exlin theorized that self-control is similar to muscle strength: Both become weaker with constant use but can be replenished with rest and strengthened with practice. Thomas Denson of the University of New South Wales said that by practicing using your non-dominant hand to use a mouse, stir coffee, open a door, etc., you can practice self-control, which can effectively limit people's aggression. Another of his experiments also confirmed that people who practiced self-control responded to insults with less aggression.

So, if your self-control ability is weak, you might as well try practicing it, because "practicing self-control is no different than playing golf or practicing the piano."
