What is the reason for grinding teeth at night

Many people may have experienced teeth grinding, especially when it is late at night and everyone is asleep, and they hear a creaking sound. Even though you can't hear it, others can still hear it. Sometimes bruxism is a disease that, if not treated, can have a significant impact on your health in the future. But many people think that this is just a small matter and do not think that teeth grinding will cause much harm to themselves.

There are several reasons for teeth grinding while sleeping at night. Some people grind their teeth unconsciously. Although they cannot feel the harm of teeth grinding for the time being, it will definitely have a great impact on the area around the teeth in the long run. So let’s take a look at the reasons why you grind your teeth at night.

Teeth grinding while sleeping is caused by abnormal excitement of some brain cells in the mandibular operation area of the cerebral cortex of the central nervous system, which leads to dysfunction of the trigeminal nerve. The trigeminal nerve innervates the masticatory muscles, which causes strong and continuous non-functional contraction and causes the teeth to make chewing movements with a rattling sound. Bruxism refers to the habit of grinding teeth during sleep or unconsciously during the day.

It gets worse little by little over time. It is a long-term vicious cycle disease. It is generally divided into 3 types:

① Teeth grinding type: Teeth grinding often occurs after falling asleep at night, which is often called nocturnal bruxism. Patients grind their teeth or clench their teeth during sleep. Since the teeth grinding is often accompanied by a "crunching" sound, it is also commonly called "teeth clenching". Because it often occurs during sleep at night, it is also called "nocturnal bruxism".

The patients themselves are usually unaware of the condition and are often told by others. Because of the impact on others, especially spouses, it is taken more seriously.

② Clenching type: People often clench their teeth unconsciously when concentrating during the day, but there is no grinding of the upper and lower teeth

③Mixed type: Both nocturnal bruxism and daytime clenching of teeth.

The above are some reasons for grinding your teeth at night. I hope it will be helpful to everyone. Don't ignore this small habit, it may cause great health risks to you in the future. We all know that we should start with small things, and many problems arise because of the accumulation of small things. I hope everyone will protect their teeth regularly.
