What do the five kinds of meat refer to

At our dining table, some people often say that we should balance nutrition when eating, so many people choose to combine meat and vegetables. Because meat ingredients can provide us with nutrients and related nutrients, and vegetarian dishes can provide us with some fiber and vitamins needed by our human body, let us understand what the five meat ingredients are.

1 The Brahma Net Sutra says : "If a Buddhist disciple cannot eat the five pungent vegetables: garlic, shallot, chives, shallot, and asafoetida, these five kinds of food cannot be eaten. If one eats them intentionally, he will commit a minor offense."

2 The Shurangama Sutra says : "Ananda! All living beings live by eating sweet things and die by eating poison. Those living beings who seek Samadhi should give up the five kinds of spicy vegetables in the world. These five kinds of spicy food, when eaten cooked, arouse lust, and when eaten raw, increase anger. In this world, those who eat spicy food, even if they can preach the twelve sutras, the gods and immortals of the ten directions will all stay away from them because they are disgusted by their stench. The hungry ghosts will lick their lips and kiss them after they eat. They will always live with ghosts, and their blessings will disappear day by day, and they will never benefit. Those who eat spicy food practice Samadhi, but Bodhisattvas, gods and immortals, and good spirits of the ten directions will not come to protect them. The powerful demon king will take advantage of this opportunity and appear in the form of a Buddha to preach to them. He will not violate the precepts, but praise lust, anger and suspicion. After death, he will become a follower of the demon king. When the demon's blessings are exhausted, he will fall into the Avici Hell. Ananda! Those who practice Bodhi will permanently give up the five kinds of spicy food. This is called the first step in the gradual improvement of practice."

3 "Collection of Writings of Master Yin Guang " Reply to Lay Buddhist Kang Jiyao: "Human food refers to onions, leeks, shallots and garlic, so it is derived from grass. The Brahma Net Sutra states that there are five pungent vegetables: garlic, onions, (leek), chives, (scallions), and shallots. (Scallions are small garlic, and shallots are these.) There are only four kinds of meat in this recipe. The Western Regions added Xingqu, so it is called the five pungent vegetables. It is also called the five meats. Some heretics regard coriander as meat, and some regard carrots and grapes as meat, which are all false. These five meats are originally vegetables, but they are not allowed to be eaten because they are smelly. Eating them and reciting sutras or chanting Buddha's name will not bring any great benefit."

4 "The Collected Writings of Master Yin Guang" "Answering the Questions of Master Shanxun": "Of the five kinds of meat, our country only has four, namely onion, leek, scallion and garlic. Scallion is garlic clove. There is Xingqu in the Western Regions, but this kind is not found in our country. Some people regard coriander as one of the five kinds of meat, but this is a creation of the heterodox religion."

5 "The Collected Writings of Master Yin Guang " "A Brief Explanation of the Three Refuges, Five Precepts, and Ten Virtues for Lay Disciples": "Don't drink alcohol. Alcohol can confuse people's minds and destroy the seeds of wisdom. Drinking alcohol can make people confused and crazy, and do wrong things. Therefore, the Buddha has set a rule to stop it. All practitioners are not allowed to drink it. In addition, onions, leeks, scallions, and garlic are five kinds of meat. They have a foul smell and are unclean. Cooked food arouses lust, and raw food increases anger. All practitioners are not allowed to eat them. However, for this matter, those who have not received the precepts will not be guilty of drinking or eating it. For those who have received the precepts, eating and drinking it will be a sin. That is, violating the Buddha's precepts. The Buddha has already forbidden it, but you still violate it, so you are guilty. (There are five kinds of meat in the Western Regions, but only four in this area.)"
