Why don't people sweat?

Why don't people sweat?

Everyone has sweat glands, and sweating is a normal physiological phenomenon, but not everyone sweats. Some people do not sweat no matter how much they exercise. This situation is related to many factors and also has a certain impact on people's physical health. Generally speaking, it is abnormal for a person not to sweat, so we need to find out the cause and prescribe the right medicine. So why don’t people sweat?

1. Anhidrosis

Little or no sweating on the skin surface may be caused by abnormalities of the sweat glands themselves. The main causes are as follows: congenital sweat gland hypoplasia or lack of sweat glands, which can manifest as systemic or localized anhidrosis. Certain skin diseases, such as severe ichthyosis, scleroderma, leprosy, radiation dermatitis, skin atrophy, etc., can cause localized asthenia. It is recommended to go to the hospital to find out the cause and then receive symptomatic treatment.

2. Other reasons

(1) Congenital hypoplasia of sweat glands or lack of sweat glands can manifest as systemic or localized anhidrosis.

(2) Certain skin diseases, such as severe ichthyosis, scleroderma, leprosy, radiation dermatitis, skin atrophy, etc., can cause localized anhidrosis.

(3) Nerve damage, such as transverse myelitis, polio, paraplegia, and local damage to the sympathetic nerves, medulla oblongata, and pons, can cause systemic or localized anhidrosis.

(4) Certain visceral diseases, such as diabetes, diabetes insipidus, chronic nephritis, myxedema, malignant tumors, etc., in addition, vitamin A deficiency, etc., can also cause systemic anhidrosis.

3. Treatment for not sweating

There is currently no clinical cure for anhidrosis caused by congenital sweat gland hypoplasia. However, if anhidrosis is caused by other diseases, the primary disease (the disease that causes anhidrosis) should be actively treated. People without sweat cannot regulate their body temperature in summer. In addition to taking treatment, those who are extremely unwell can move to low-temperature areas or take artificial cooling measures, such as installing air conditioners indoors.
