Dimethyl sulfoxide

Dimethyl sulfoxide

Many people think that dimethyl sulfoxide is a major element in the industrial chain, but they don’t know that some people will need to come into contact with dimethyl sulfoxide when they are working. You must be careful when you come into contact with it. Don’t think that it is just a liquid. If it gets on your skin, you need to dilute and rinse it with plenty of water. It can easily cause symptoms of nausea, vomiting and skin rash, which may endanger human health.

Basic Uses

At the same time, transition metal halides such as chromium chloride and manganese chloride and halides such as potassium chloride and sodium chloride have a certain solubility in DMSO, so they can be used in organic electrochemistry.

Dimethyl sulfoxide is widely used as a solvent and reaction reagent, especially as a processing solvent and spinning solvent in acrylonitrile polymerization, as a solvent for polyurethane synthesis and spinning, as a synthetic solvent for polyamide, polyimide and polysulfone resins, as well as an extraction solvent for aromatic hydrocarbons and butadiene and a solvent for the synthesis of chlorofluoroaniline.

DMSO is dimethyl sulfoxide,

Wide range of uses. Used as solvent for acetylene, aromatic hydrocarbons, sulfur dioxide and other gases, as well as spinning solvent for acrylic fibers. It is an extremely important aprotic polar solvent that is soluble in both water and organic solvents. It has extremely strong permeability to the skin, which helps drugs penetrate into the human body. It can also be used as an additive for pesticides. It is also a very important chemical reagent.

DMSO is also a permeability protectant that can lower the freezing point of cells, reduce the formation of ice crystals, alleviate free radical damage to cells, and change the permeability of biological membranes to electrolytes, drugs, toxins, and metabolites.

However, studies have shown that DMSO has certain toxic effects. It reacts with the hydrophobic groups of proteins, causing protein denaturation and having vascular toxicity and hepato-kidney toxicity.

DMSO has certain toxic effects. When using it, avoid its volatilization. Prepare 1%-5% ammonia water for use. If it comes into contact with the skin, wash it with plenty of water and dilute ammonia water.

The most common symptoms are nausea, vomiting, rash, and a garlic, onion, and oyster odor on the skin and in breath.

Inhalation: High concentrations may cause headache, dizziness and sedation.

Skin: Can burn and cause stinging sensations on the skin, as seen with rashes and blisters. If dimethyl sulfoxide comes into contact with water-containing skin, it will produce a thermal reaction. Avoid contact with dimethyl sulfoxide solutions containing toxic raw materials or substances because its toxicity is unknown, but dimethyl sulfoxide may penetrate the skin and bring toxic substances into the skin under certain conditions.
