Laser treatment for presbyopia

Laser treatment for presbyopia

As we age in life, our body functions and immunity decline, and problems will arise in various parts of the body. Presbyopia is one of these problems. Due to excessive eye fatigue, the eye's ability to adjust gradually decreases. This disease generally occurs in people over 45 years old. When presbyopia, blurred vision in the distance, etc. occur, you should go to a regular hospital for examination and follow the doctor's arrangements for treatment according to the situation.

Methods/Steps

1. The first step in the treatment of presbyopia surgery: good monitoring

Femtosecond laser performs all the key steps in lens surgery accurately and safely. Throughout the femtosecond laser treatment, professional German ophthalmologists will plan and monitor every step of the operation.

2. The second stage of presbyopia surgery: before surgery

Before the procedure begins, the laser is precisely focused onto the lens of the eye. All preset cuts are presented to the surgeon from multiple perspectives through the OCT screen, facilitating full-process monitoring. OCT stands for Optical Coherence Tomography. The technology provides high-definition, three-dimensional images of the entire anterior segment of the eye. It is important to note that topical anesthetic eye drops should be used before surgery. It is an outpatient procedure and takes only 15 minutes per eye.

3. The third stage of presbyopia surgery: intraoperative

During laser surgery, a special contact lens is placed over the eye. The patient interface displays OCT images of a simulated patient eye while monitoring the laser surgery steps through synchronized images. After the femtosecond laser completes the incision and pulverizes the natural lens, the lens is removed. In this process, the energy of ultrasound in traditional ultrasonic emulsification and nucleus removal will be greatly reduced.

The surgeon then implants the foldable IOL into the empty capsular bag and centers the lens.

1. Lens implantation steps: Use LenSx femtosecond laser to make a 2mm minimally invasive incision on the cornea, then soften and split the natural lens. Then remove the remaining crystals by suction.

2 The lens capsule is retained to support the new artificial lens. The LenSx femtosecond laser reduces the loss of corneal tissue during surgery and uses less ultrasonic energy to absorb the natural lens. This technology is significantly less invasive and safer.

3. Every patient will receive a set of artificial lenses customized according to their individual eye parameters before surgery, and a lens capsule will be implanted during the operation to replace the original lens. This highly compatible multifocal intraocular lens can be used for a lifetime and provides crystal clear vision at both near and far distances.

4. Lens implantation steps: The doctor will first fold, compress and suck the prepared artificial lens into the syringe, and then insert the straw at the front end of the syringe into the incision made during the previous surgery, and inject the artificial lens into the empty lens capsule. Next, the intraocular lens is unfolded and fixed. At this point, the new artificial lens replaces the original aging lens, and presbyopia and other visual impairments are corrected at the same time.
