According to my experience and understanding, sleep refers to the brain's need to distribute and solidify stimuli and stimulus connections to corresponding nerve cells (reorganize information), temporarily transferring the excitement points (attention) to nerve cells that originally had weaker excitement intensity, and those nerve cells take over most of the body's life activities. The nerve cells with higher excitement that originally received and processed internal and external stimuli and responded must prevent the stimulus connections that have not been deeply processed from interfering with each other (information overload). (It can also be understood that the biochemical energy is limited, and when awake, these nerve cells mainly receive and process stimuli, create and call stimulus connections, and when asleep, they mainly organize, filter and solidify stimulus connections.) This is a necessary life process that must largely shield the effects of internal and external stimuli on these nerve cells. Mental fatigue is manifested as too many stimulus associations to be processed or solidified, and people's instinctive uneasiness, tension and anxiety stored in the stimulus associations. Sleep plays a role in digesting these stimulus associations, which manifests itself as relieving fatigue. Poor sleep quality refers to insufficient shielding or insufficient sleep time to fully digest stimulus associations. Sleepiness is a pathological form of excessive and prolonged shielding. These are all manifestations of insufficient neural control. During sleep, as active activities are weakened, a person's physical strength is restored accordingly. Sleep tends to be an unconscious, pleasurable state that usually occurs while lying in bed and allowing ourselves to rest during the night. Compared with the waking state, when sleeping, a person stops contacting with the surroundings, conscious awareness disappears, and he can no longer control what he says or does. When people are sleeping, their muscles relax, their nerve reflexes weaken, their body temperature drops, their heart rate slows down, their blood pressure drops slightly, their metabolism slows down, and their gastrointestinal motility also significantly weakens. At this time, the sleeping person seems to be still and passive, but in fact, if we do an EEG on a person while he is sleeping, we will find that the electrical impulses emitted by brain cells when a person is sleeping are no weaker than when he is awake. Improve sleep quality: Just as everyone’s appetite is different, everyone’s required sleep time is also different. The length of sleep cannot be used to judge whether a person has enough sleep.
