Tips on how to remove dental plaque

Dental plaque is actually a condition in which food residues breed bacteria due to our poor oral hygiene. Dental plaque actually affects our overall image. For example, when we smile, it would be embarrassing if our teeth are covered with plaque. Therefore, once dental plaque is found, we must find a way to remove it. So, how can we effectively eliminate dental plaque?

Brushing teeth is the simplest and most effective method, but experiments show that when adults brush their teeth incorrectly, there is still a large amount of dental plaque in the gingival sulcus and between teeth that cannot be effectively removed, especially on the inner side of the upper and lower molars and the occlusal surface of the posterior molars, which are the areas where dental plaque is most difficult to remove.

Mastering the correct brushing method can control dental plaque and maintain oral health to the greatest extent. If the brushing method is inappropriate, not only will the purpose of brushing be failed, but it will cause various adverse consequences. The most common ones are gum atrophy and wedge-shaped defects at the neck of the teeth caused by vertical brushing up and down and horizontal brushing left and right.

What will happen if dental plaque is not removed for a long time? When dental plaque reaches its final mature stage, it will form a fence-like structure on the tooth surface, so that some food residues can easily settle in these structures and form tartar after mineralization. Clinical experiments have shown that dental tartar is the best parasitic place for dental plaque. It can easily absorb bacteria or toxins released from dental plaque, causing local irritation to the gums and leading to inflammation of the gingival tissue. When the inflammation on the gums spreads to the deep periodontal tissue under the gums, it will trigger alveolar bone absorption and dissolution and destruction of the periodontal mucosa, leading to ulcers in the periodontal pockets that induce periodontitis, and making it difficult for the inner wall epithelium to heal, eventually resulting in gingival bleeding and worsening of periodontal infection.

The presence of tartar will not only aggravate the deterioration of periodontitis, but also make it more likely to cause bad breath. Because the tartar in the mouth is a good place for the growth and reproduction of dental plaque. When tartar accumulates to a certain thickness, the bacteria inside it close to the surface of the teeth begin to switch to anaerobic respiration because they are isolated from the air. The acid produced here by anaerobic respiration cannot be washed away by saliva in time, which will corrode the mineral components in the enamel and further promote the formation of caries.

The best way to prevent and remove dental plaque is to brush your teeth regularly. If you use an ordinary toothbrush, you need to learn the correct brushing method; if you use an electric toothbrush, the high speed will effectively increase the efficiency of brushing.

If tartar has already formed on your teeth, you need to go to the hospital for teeth cleaning regularly.
