What to put in rice to prevent insects

I'm sure everyone has eaten rice. It is one of our staple foods and is rich in energy. However, rice often has many problems, such as rice weevils. Many people may not know the cause of this situation. We can prevent it from getting worms by putting something in it. So what can we put in it to prevent it from getting worms?

1. Quicklime: Put some quicklime in the rice jar. Its main function is to absorb moisture. Quicklime will absorb water to become slaked lime. By taking advantage of this characteristic and placing the quicklime in a sealed jar, the jar can be kept dry, and things in such an environment will not easily become moldy. Moreover, slaked lime is alkaline, and the calcium it produces can denature proteins, kill bacteria and fungi, and have an insect repellent effect.

Note: Put some quicklime at the bottom of the rice jar, cover it with a layer of plastic cloth, and then put the rice in to avoid accidental ingestion. Quicklime is generally not easy to obtain. What should we do? In fact, we can collect some preservative packets from snacks and put them in rice, which has the same effect.

2. Refrigerator: It is better to place the rice in a low temperature environment, such as storing it in the refrigerator. Low temperature can reduce the oxidation of rice oil and the breeding of rice weevils. Place the rice in an airtight plastic bucket or bag and refrigerate.

Note: Once rice is placed in the refrigerator, it cannot be taken out and stored at room temperature. Because temperature changes will cause the surface of rice to absorb moisture, making it damp and easy to deteriorate. Moreover, the temperature in the kitchen is relatively high, so don't store too much rice at home at one time to prevent the old rice from deteriorating in taste.

3. Remove rice bran: In summer, the climate changes greatly, the temperature is high, and the humidity is high. Rice bran tends to become sticky and cause insects. After summer, it is recommended to screen the rice to be stored again to remove the fine bran and store it in a ventilated place to avoid insects.

4. Dried peppercorns: prepare several small pieces of clean gauze, wrap a little dried peppercorn shell on each piece, tie them up and place them in a rice jar or rice bag, placing them in different positions of the bag or rice jar, such as the top, middle and bottom, to ensure that they work on the whole bag of rice. In addition, you can also soak the rice bag in boiled pepper juice for 10 minutes, dry it, and then use it to hold rice, which can also effectively prevent insects.

Sichuan pepper can repel insects because it is a natural antioxidant and has a unique aroma. Rice weevils are very sensitive to smells and avoid this special smell as much as possible.

Note: It is best to use newly bought peppercorns, which have a stronger smell. After a period of time, when the flavor of the peppercorns becomes lighter, replace the gauze bag with a new one.
