Pus in the ear

Pus in the ear

The health of the ears has always been an issue that cannot be ignored. If people ignore the health of their ears, it may lead to the inability to hear sounds. This will have a very big impact on people’s lives and will also cause a great blow to people. It is very necessary to pay attention to the health of the ears. The most common problem in the ears may be pus discharge. What is the cause of pus discharge in the ears?

There are three situations in which pus repeatedly flows from the ear:

Long-term pus discharge from the ear should never be taken lightly. Experts say that it is necessary to check in time to see if there is granulation tissue or cholesteatoma in the ear. Especially when the pus discharge from the ear has a foul odor, special attention should be paid and surgery should be performed in time to avoid serious complications.

There are three common reasons for repeated ear discharge. One is that the eardrum is perforated and has not healed well. When swimming, bathing, or washing hair, dirty water enters the ear and the discharge is likely to occur again. However, the symptoms will disappear once medication is taken. The second is that there are granulation tissue in the tympanic cavity and mastoid process. Long-term inflammation will cause secretions, and once infected, pus will be discharged, and medication will not be effective. When purulent otitis media is not taken seriously enough, it will cause cholesteatoma otitis media, the pus discharged is very smelly, and it is difficult to treat with medication.

The latter two situations should be treated surgically in time. The first situation is the easiest to be ignored because it will be cured as soon as the medication is taken. Over time, it will develop into the latter two types of otitis media. Therefore, experts recommend that suppurative otitis media is best treated surgically, especially cholesteatoma otitis media, which should be treated as soon as possible.

Not adhering to medication can cause acute episodes to become chronic

When treating acute otitis media, the ear pain will disappear after taking medicine for one or two days. Many patients stop taking the medicine on their own at this time. Experts say that in fact, at this time, the symptoms are only controlled by medicine, and the bacteria causing the infection have not been completely killed. After stopping the medicine, they will stay in the ear for a long time. When the body's resistance decreases, it will cause acute inflammation again. If it occurs repeatedly, it will become chronic otitis media. Therefore, medication should be taken during the acute phase for at least 3 days after the symptoms disappear.

In addition, if your eardrum is perforated accidentally by picking your ears, diving, etc., do not use medicine drops and do not let water enter your ears. Because the protective layer of the eardrum is damaged, the medicine will flush dirt from the outer ear into the middle ear, accelerating the infection of the middle ear. You should pay attention to keeping your ears dry, avoid colds, and take anti-inflammatory drugs to prevent infection.

Blowing your nose incorrectly after a cold or nasal congestion; water getting into your ears when swimming or washing your hair; accidentally hurting your ears when picking your ears. These are common activities in daily life, but they cause most otitis media. Ninety percent of otitis media patients become ill because of these trivial things, or they lead to recurrence of otitis media. You should pay attention to enhancing your resistance, actively treating rhinitis and sinusitis, preventing colds, and wearing earplugs when swimming.
