What's the matter with the pain behind the ear

What causes pain behind the ear?

The ears are the part we use to hear sounds every day. We should take good care of our ears. Some people will experience pain in the back of the ear, which can affect people's normal life, affect their hearing, and cause anxiety. Many people don’t understand what causes pain at the back of the ear. What causes pain at the back of the ear? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. What causes pain in the back of the ear?

Earache is also a common disease. There are many causes of earache. As for the lesions of the ear itself, there are generally the following types.

1. Otitis externa: When there is discomfort in the ear, some people like to dig in the ear with fingernails, hairpins, etc., which can easily puncture the skin of the ear canal and cause infection and inflammation. At this time, there is not only ear pain but also bleeding.

2. External auditory canal furuncle When external otitis is not treated in time, or when the patient is old and weak, suffers from diabetes, or the ear canal skin is immersed in water for a long time and the skin surface resistance is weakened, ear canal furuncle is often prone to occur. The furuncle will gradually swell and fester, blocking the ear canal and causing pain.

3. Otitis media is an inflammatory lesion of all or part of the structure of the middle ear (including the Eustachian tube, tympanic cavity, tympanic sinus and mastoid air cells), which is mostly non-specific inflammation, especially in children.

4. When acute otitis media causes bacterial infection in the middle ear cavity, the pus continues to increase and directly compresses the pain-sensitive eardrum, causing intermittent pain in the ear, which may be throbbing pain.

5. Ear herpes is related to viral infection and is more common on the auricle. The ear pain it causes is like a needle prick or burning. A few people may also have facial nerve paralysis, hearing loss, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms.

6. Earwax is commonly known as "earwax", which is secreted by the cerumen glands under the skin of the ear canal. When earwax accumulates, it can block the ear canal, causing hearing loss and ear pain. Once water enters the ear canal, the earwax will expand and press tightly against the ear canal, causing ear pain.

2. Notes

Be careful when wearing headphones; don’t wear them for too long. There is a very common phenomenon nowadays, especially among the younger generation. No matter they are walking, waiting for a bus, riding a bus, or eating, they are holding mobile phones in their hands and wearing earphones in their ears. Some people even do not forget to listen to music with earphones while working. It feels like they are wearing earphones all day long. This will have a certain impact on hearing. It is recommended to avoid listening to earphones for a long time.

3. Reminder

Be careful when digging earwax.
