What are the treatments for gingival fistula?

The gums are a very fragile tissue. The main function of the gums is to protect the roots of the teeth from being affected by viruses. However, the weakness of the gums can also be damaged by diseases. For example, gingival fistula is a common symptom, which has a great impact on people’s health. If a fistula occurs, it must be treated in time. Let’s take a look at the treatments for gingival fistula. I hope everyone can understand.

Gingival fistula is a common dental disease. Generally speaking, root canal treatment is divided into three times, the first one is to kill the nerve. If the inflammation is very severe, open treatment or root canal sealing with medication will be performed and the patient will be observed for three months to one year. Second root canal preparation, sealing and disinfection. The root canal can be filled for the third time. Root canal treatment is not 100% successful, and recurring inflammation is not uncommon, but with regular treatment, the inflammation will disappear.

Long-term infected root canals are often complicated by fistulas in oral clinical treatment, which is difficult to treat. Often, after multiple root canal dressing changes and follow-up visits, satisfactory clinical results cannot be achieved, leading to extraction or apical resection.

Orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic treatment is one of the important methods of comprehensive treatment of periodontitis. It can help the recovery and healing of periodontal tissues by repositioning loose and displaced teeth, changing the long axis of the teeth and the direction of force, and eliminating traumatic bite forces.

1. Indications

①Align crowded and misaligned teeth to facilitate plaque control;

② Deep overbite of anterior teeth;

③Pathological fan-shaped displacement and gaps of anterior teeth;

④ The posterior teeth tilt toward the mesial side, forming deep subbone pockets. Through orthodontic treatment, they can be uprighted and the deep mesial pockets can also be eliminated.

2. Contraindications

①Untreated periodontitis;

② Despite treatment, inflammation still exists, plaque is not controlled, and the disease is still in the active stage;

③The alveolar bone absorption of the affected tooth has exceeded 1/2 of the root length.

At present, periodontal splints are commonly used clinically to fix loose teeth, disperse occlusal forces, and improve patients' chewing function. They connect multiple loose teeth together or fix loose teeth on healthy teeth to form a new chewing unit.
