Why is the stool a bit black?

In life, there are always some people who are particularly careful and love to observe life. These people will observe various life phenomena. Of course, there are also many people suffering from gastrointestinal diseases in life. Gastrointestinal diseases can have various clinical manifestations. Some patients with gastrointestinal diseases will observe that the stool discharged from their bodies is black. So, what is the reason why the stool is a little black?

The common causes of black stool color are as follows:

1. Digestive tract diseases: The most common cause of bloody stools, including esophageal varices, esophageal foreign bodies, ulcer disease, acute gastritis, gastric mucosal prolapse, intussusception, hemorrhagic necrotizing enteritis, strangulated intestinal obstruction, Meckel's diverticulum, intestinal polyps, anal fissures, etc.

2. Blood diseases: neonatal hemorrhagic disease, hemophilia, leukemia, aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia and allergic purpura, etc.

3. Other systemic infectious diseases: such as sepsis, typhoid fever, etc., newborns swallowing blood from the mother's birth canal or ruptured nipples, swallowing of bleeding from the nose, pharynx, and gums, etc.

4. Influence of food or medicine: Certain foods and medicines can also cause changes in stool color, which can sometimes be easily confused with bloody stools. For example, eating a lot of watermelon and tomatoes in the summer can make the stool turn red. The stool of children with anemia can turn black after taking iron supplements. The stool can also turn black after eating animal blood, liver and more meat, or taking iron or carbon supplements.

The amount of blood varies. The characteristic of blood in the stool is black color, because the red blood cells are destroyed by digestive juices, such as gastric juice, duodenal juice, bile, pancreatic juice and other fluids, and are destroyed and decomposed into non-blood cell organic matter. They are then mixed with the digested food and enter the small intestine and colon to be digested and absorbed. Blood mixes with food residues to become feces and is excreted from the body, and the feces become black. Long-term bloody stools lead to anemia and decreased body resistance. The cause must be found and treated as soon as possible!
