How to eat New Zealand pumpkin

How to eat New Zealand pumpkin

I've had all kinds of pumpkins, from small to large, red and yellow with green flowers to short round ones, and I'm always very curious about why they are not the same but the flesh inside is similar. A lot of pumpkins ripen in the fall, but when you pick them up, you'll want to hold on to them for a while before eating them again because they're sweet enough. Eat slowly and you can eat it until next spring.

① Honey Pumpkin: An early-maturing hybrid, the fruit has a swollen base, a slightly longer body, and is approximately papaya-shaped. The mature fruit is yellow with light yellow spots. The flesh is dense, sweet and sticky, and of excellent quality. The whole growing period is 95 days, the single fruit weighs about 2 kg, and it has strong resistance to viral diseases.

② Yellow Wolf Pumpkin: An excellent local variety in Shanghai, also known as Xiaozha Pumpkin. The plant has strong growth potential, thick stems, many branches and long internodes. The first female flower is borne at the fifteenth to sixteenth node of the main vine, and thereafter female flowers appear every one to three nodes. The fruit is long club-shaped, with a vertical diameter of about 45 cm and a horizontal diameter of about 15 cm. The peel is orange-red and becomes waxy when fully ripe. The flesh is thick, delicate, sweet, of good quality and relatively resistant to storage and transportation. The whole growing period is 110 to 120 days, and the weight of a single fruit is about 1.5 kg.

③ Big Grinding Pan Pumpkin: An excellent local variety in Beijing, the first female flower is borne on the eighth to tenth nodes of the main vine. The fruit is oblate, shaped like a millstone, with a horizontal diameter of about 30 cm and a height of about 15 cm. The young fruit skin is dark green in color, turning reddish brown with light yellow stripes and covered with wax powder when fully ripe. The flesh is orange-yellow, low in water, sweet and of good quality.

④ Small grinding wheel pumpkin: an early maturing variety, the first female flower is borne on the eighth to tenth nodes of the main vine. The fruit is oblate and shaped like a small millstone. The young fruit skin is green in color, turning brown-red with longitudinal ridges when fully ripe. The flesh is sweet and smooth with good quality, and a single fruit weighs about 2 kg.

⑤ Oxleg pumpkin: a late-maturing variety, the fruit is long and cylindrical, swollen at the end, and has a seed cavity inside. The flesh is rough, powdery and durable in storage and transportation. The whole growing period is 110 to 120 days, and the weight of a single fruit is about 15 kilograms.

⑥Snake pumpkin: a medium-ripening variety with snake-shaped fruit and the end where the seed cavity is located is not swollen. The flesh is dense, sweet and powdery, glutinous and of good quality. The entire reproductive period is about 100 days.
