The nails are a little black

Human nails are a kind of renewable bone. The health of the human body can be judged by the characteristics of the nails. Normal people's nails are smooth, white with a hint of red, and have a light layer of moon-white. But some patients will find that their nails are slowly turning black, and they will feel very panicked, wondering if they have a contagious disease such as onychomycosis. So, what's going on if the nails are a little black?

Black: A black nail bed indicates cold syndrome, blood stasis, and pain syndrome. Long-term illness will cause black, dry and dull nails, indicating that the kidney qi is about to be exhausted and the disease is serious. The appearance of one or several thin, black vertical lines on the nail surface indicates endocrine disorders, which can be seen in menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea, malignant tumors, radiation sickness, etc. After receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cancer, each treatment will form a black mark on the nail, recording each treatment in circles.

How to measure your health with your fingernails

It is not idealistic to judge a person's health condition by looking at his nails. A person must have good nutrition for their nails to grow normally, otherwise some abnormal phenomena will occur, and doctors can often use this to diagnose important diseases. Here are some abnormal nail phenomena:

1. Clubbing: The nail is significantly arched upward and curved around the finger. Nail clubbing may indicate emphysema, tuberculosis, cardiovascular disease, ulcerative colitis, or cirrhosis of the liver.

2. Blue Crescent: If the crescent-shaped white mark at the base of the nail has a blue halo, it may indicate any of the following conditions: obstructed blood circulation, heart disease, Raynaud's syndrome, vasospasm of the fingers and toes, usually due to cold exposure. But it is sometimes associated with rheumatoid arthritis or the autoimmune disease lupus erythematosus.

3. Spoon-shaped nail: The middle of the nail is sunken, and the entire nail becomes flat or spoon-shaped. This type of nails is related to iron deficiency anemia, syphilis, thyroid disorders, rheumatic fever, etc.

4. Lindsay's nails: The half of the nail near the tip is pink or brown, and the half near the nail is white. This type of nail is also called bipartite nail and may be a sign of chronic renal failure.

5. Beau's lines: Horizontal grooves on the nails indicate malnutrition or a serious illness that temporarily affects nail growth, such as measles, rib inflammation, or a sudden heart attack.

6. Thali's nails: Most of the skin under the nail turns white, leaving only a small area near the tip of the nail that remains normal pink. This may indicate cirrhosis of the liver.

7. Yellow nail syndrome: nail growth slows down and becomes thick and hard; it is yellow or green. Causes include chronic respiratory diseases, thyroid disease or lymphatic disease.

8. Bleeding: If these vertical red lines appear on the nails, it means microvascular bleeding. If multiple such blood lines appear, it may indicate chronic hypertension, psoriasis or a fatal infection called subacute bacterial endocarditis.
