Why do I always have nightmares? What is the reason for frequent nightmares?

A nightmare refers to screaming in a dream or feeling that your body is being pressed down by something and cannot move, which causes a rapid decline in sleep quality and affects your work, study and life during the day. This often creates a vicious cycle. This phenomenon is mostly due to excessive mental stress and anxiety, and excessive attention to one thing. So what we need to do is to adjust our mentality, maintain a regular diet, sleep, exercise, etc. and live a healthy life.

Nightmares feel terrible. You are awake but unable to make any sound or move your limbs, as if your soul is attached to a corpse. Not only that, at this time the brain will be eager to fall asleep, and people will fall asleep irresistibly. The scene in front of their eyes will slowly become dark, and their consciousness will become blurred. But at this time, out of the instinctive desire for consciousness and the fear of nightmares, people try their best to get rid of the nightmare and wake up immediately, but because they cannot move, they are unable to get up. At this time, if someone touches you or calls your name, you will wake up immediately. As we all know, nightmares are very likely to appear in ghost novels and are often regarded as seeing ghosts in rumors. This is because the chance of hallucinations occurring during nightmares is also high.

During a nightmare, that is, when one is half asleep and half awake, the hallucinations are extremely real, so real that usually one cannot distinguish the authenticity of the events when one wakes up. Some people have hallucinations in nightmares, and then continue to fall asleep and start dreaming. The content of the dream may be information related to the hallucination.

When people sleep, their brains are in a dormant state and they dream. Many people know that when we sleep, our brain alternates between deep sleep and light sleep. When the brain is in a light sleep, people dream; when they are in a deep sleep, they are completely unconscious and feel like they are in a deep sea without light. Under normal circumstances, people wake up from light sleep. When you are unlucky enough to wake up from deep sleep, the possibility of having a nightmare is very high. At this time, if you wake up but cannot move, it is because the center in the brain responsible for receiving information has awakened, while the center responsible for movement is still asleep. At this time, you can only blink and breathe, but you cannot move, and you can't even bite your tongue to wake yourself up. The explanation for nightmares is so simple, in fact, it is no different from that of stroke patients. Because part of the brain is still asleep, the awake part is influenced to continue sleeping, so an irresistible desire will arise. In this half-asleep and half-wakeful process, anything the human brain thinks of at this time can easily be projected into hallucinations, combined with the information sent by the retina, and transmitted to the human signal processing center. Because it is so realistic, even the brain is usually deceived.

After understanding nightmares, I hope everyone will not be overly afraid of them, and not have any psychological trauma caused by hallucinations caused by previous nightmares. The reason why I know so much is because I have many such experiences, most of which are related to irregular sleep, haha~. Another reason is that I hate the feeling of having nightmares, so when they happen I have to find ways to wake myself up. This is not easy to do, so let me first tell you some ways to prevent nightmares.

The main thing is to develop a healthy lifestyle, drink less water before going to bed, and don’t force yourself when you don’t want to sleep. Because you may have nightmares when you fall asleep, but the chance of hallucinations seems to be relatively low.

When you have a nightmare, there are several ways to wake yourself up. It is almost impossible to move your hands and feet during a nightmare, but you can try moving your head. I have now practiced to the point where I can shake my head 90 degrees and move my limbs slightly. Also, after waking yourself up, don't lie there and move, as this will most likely cause you to have another nightmare. It is best to turn on the light immediately, get up, drink some water, sit for a while, and wait until your mind is clearer before going back to sleep.
