What does urine sugar 40 mean

What does urine sugar 40 mean

As the name suggests, urine sugar is the sugar in the body that eventually remains in the urine. The urine will reabsorb components beneficial to the human body through the renal tubular reabsorption in the kidneys, thus maximizing the nutritional absorption of the food ingested. If the sugar level in urine is too high, it means you have diabetes. Diabetes can make people feel very uncomfortable, and they cannot eat foods that are too high in sugar. Let’s take a look at what urine sugar 4+ means?

Urine sugar +4 means that sugar appears in the urine. Sugar should not appear in the urine of a normal person.

1. Urine sugar +4 indicates that a lot of glucose is excreted in the urine, which means the patient may be diabetic.

2. When blood sugar rises rapidly, urine sugar is often negative, that is, a + sign will appear in the urine sugar.

3. Urine sugar remains at a very high level and no longer continues to rise. Urine sugar may show severe positive results. This is because the body's urge to recycle blood sugar is relieved.

4. The main reasons for increased urine sugar:

Physiological: High blood sugar due to recent consumption of large amounts of desserts, etc., usually not accompanied by kidney damage and can disappear after improving the diet.

Pathological: Diabetic patients have high blood sugar levels, leading to diabetes. 1+ may be accompanied by kidney damage. After oral hypoglycemic drugs or insulin treatment, blood sugar may disappear after blood sugar stabilizes. However, if it cannot be properly controlled for a long time, diabetic nephropathy may occur. Abnormal renal function: Due to primary kidney diseases such as nephritis, kidney function is damaged, blood sugar is excreted in the urine, and urine sugar appears. Sample contamination: Whether there is contamination during the urine collection process.

1. What does the 4 plus signs in diabetes mean?

The number of (+) indicates the severity of the progression of a disease, that is, it represents a quantitative change. For example, if a person has diabetes, he or she will often have his or her urine sugar tested. The signs (+), (++), (+++) indicate that the condition of the diabetes has changed: (+) means the condition is mild, (-) means the condition is under control, and (++) → (+++) means the condition is not under control and is continuing to worsen and develop. For people with gastric or duodenal ulcers, a stool occult blood test of (+++) or (++++) indicates the severity of the patient's bleeding.

2. How to correctly test urine sugar

The most commonly used method for testing urine sugar is the Benedict's urine sugar qualitative test. The reagents and instruments used for the test include: reagents, 2 droppers, 1 wooden clamp, 1 test tube (10 ml long), and 1 alcohol lamp.

Take 1 ml of Benedict's solution (it can only be used if the original color - blue remains unchanged) into a test tube, light an alcohol lamp, clamp the test tube with a wooden clip and heat it on the alcohol lamp to boil, then add 2 drops of urine (the ratio of reagent to urine should not exceed 10:1. For convenience, you can also use 20 drops of Benedict's reagent to heat until boiling, add 2 drops of urine, put it on the alcohol lamp and boil it for 1 to 2 minutes, and swing it while boiling to prevent the liquid from splashing out of the tube. Be careful not to point the mouth of the test tube at your face to prevent the boiling liquid from splashing and scalding your face. Do not burn the test tube above the liquid level to prevent the test tube from burning. After cooling, the results are divided: blue (original color remains unchanged) is (a), indicating no sugar; green. Color is (ten), containing trace amounts of sugar, <0.5 g%; green-yellow is (ten ten), containing a small amount of sugar, 0.5 g% to 1 g%; khaki is (ten ten ten), containing a moderate amount of sugar, 1 g% to 2 g%; brick red is (ten ten ten ten), containing a large amount of sugar, 2 g% to 3 g%.
