Can taking a bath really cure a cold?

Drinking ginger and brown sugar water after catching a cold is a simple and easy treatment method, while steaming sauna and taking a hot bath also have therapeutic effects on colds. Cold, commonly known as "cold", is caused by the human body being affected by wind and cold evil spirits, which causes the skin surface to be blocked and the lungs to fail to defend, resulting in a series of symptoms such as chills, fever, no sweating, headache, nasal congestion, and runny nose. The purpose of sweating therapy is not only to make people sweat, but also to open the pores, circulate blood, promote lung qi and eliminate evil spirits through sweating. Therefore, if you can make your whole body sweat slightly through steaming sauna or taking a hot bath, you can also achieve the purpose of treating colds.

Of course, when using this "local method", you must pay attention to the following points:

1. Ensure that the temperature of the bathing environment is high enough so that you can sweat slightly all over your body during bathing (if your body is very weak, it is enough to just start sweating).

2. After sweating, wipe it off with a hot towel immediately, lie in bed with a blanket to rest, and drink appropriate amount of hot water or hot porridge to help sweating (young people can drink more).

3. The room temperature should also be high. When sweating continues, do not lift the quilt to change clothes for the time being. You can use a dry towel to pad your chest and back, and then change clothes and quilt after the sweating stops to avoid catching a cold again.

4. If the effect of sweating is achieved through bathing, especially for infants and young children, it is not advisable to take other Chinese and Western medicines for diaphoresis, so as to avoid excessive sweating that consumes qi and damages yin.

5. Minors and infants should bathe under the supervision of their family members to avoid accidents.
