Effects after gallstone removal

Effects after gallstone removal

Gallstone removal surgery has been around for more than 120 years. Objectively speaking, gallstone removal surgery does not have a big impact on the body, but after all, it is to remove something originally in the body, and it is impossible to say that it has no effect on the body at all. As people pay more and more attention to physical fitness and health preservation, they are also paying more and more attention to the impact after gallstone removal. The following will introduce to you the impact of gallstone removal surgery on the patient's body.

1. Causes bile duct damage

As we all know, during the cholecystectomy operation, due to the anatomical complexity of Calot's triangle and the influence of local tissue adhesion, complications caused by cholecystectomy are inevitable. There is always a certain probability (bile duct injury: 0.18-2.3%) and a certain mortality rate (0.17%), including: bile duct injury, hepatic duct injury, vascular injury, gastrointestinal injury, etc. It is particularly worth emphasizing that cholecystectomy will cause bile duct injury to a great extent.

2. Causes liver damage and colon damage

It has been confirmed that lithocholic acid has a certain toxicity to liver cells. After cholecystectomy, the secondary bile acid increases. The lithocholic acid produced enters the liver and colon through the enterohepatic circulation, causing liver damage and colon damage. Colon damage is likely a cause of colon cancer. After a normal person eats, the gallbladder contracts, causing a large amount of bile to enter the intestine. This process is carried out in a regular and synchronous manner with the secretion and peristalsis of the stomach and duodenum. After cholecystectomy, the loss of bile reserve function causes bile to be continuously discharged into the duodenum instead of intermittent and meal-related excretion, increasing the chance of reflux into the stomach, leading to bile reflux gastritis and esophagitis.

3. The incidence of colon cancer may increase after surgery

In recent years, many European scholars have found that many cases of colon cancer have a history of cholecystectomy. Some scholars have pointed out that the incidence of colon cancer may increase after surgery, and animal experiments have also shown that secondary bile acids can directly increase the incidence of colon cancer in animals. Controlled studies have found that cholecystectomy can increase the proliferation activity of intestinal mucosa, thereby promoting the occurrence of cancer. The changes in the quality and quantity of bile after cholecystectomy are the main causes of colorectal cancer.
