What is the correct way to disinfect a thermometer?

There are many types of thermometers, but the most common one in our life is the watermark thermometer, which is also the most accurate. If it is used too many times or too many people use it, it is easy to leave some bacteria on it, which will cause harm to the user's body. In order to avoid this situation, everyone must master the correct disinfection method. So what is the correct way to disinfect the thermometer?

First, what is the correct way to disinfect a thermometer? First of all, we need to buy a mercury thermometer from a regular pharmacy. When purchasing, you can consult a doctor about the correct way to use a mercury thermometer. We usually use three places to measure body temperature, namely the mouth, armpits and anus.

The second most commonly used method is to measure the armpit. We first shake the mercury thermometer to below 35°C, then place the mercury end of the thermometer at the top of the armpit and clamp it. Make sure the thermometer is in close contact with your skin and remove it after about 5 minutes. After reading the degree, wipe it clean with tissue paper for next use. The armpits are prone to sweating, so be sure to wipe off the sweat under the armpits before measuring. When measuring body temperature under the armpit, it is important to keep the time between 5-6 minutes.

Third, when measuring the oral cavity, first shake the mercury thermometer to below 35℃, then place the thermometer under the tongue and press it down with a little force. Before doing this, be sure to disinfect and clean the surface of the thermometer before putting it in your mouth. The time is 3 minutes. Remember not to talk during the test. When measuring oral cavity, be careful not to bite the thermometer too hard, as there is a risk of poisoning if it breaks. It is best not to use this measurement method on unconscious patients and children. After measuring the oral temperature, wipe it clean with tissue paper, then wipe the entire mercury thermometer with an alcohol cotton ball and put it back in place for next use.

What is the correct way to disinfect a thermometer? When the body is in a healthy state, the body temperature is generally relatively constant, that is, it is maintained at around 37°C (roughly 36.2°C ~ 37.3°C), and will not change due to changes in the external environmental temperature. For most normal people, the oral body temperature ranges from 36.7℃ to 37.7℃, the axillary temperature ranges from 36.0℃ to 37.4℃, and the rectal temperature ranges from 36.9℃ to 37.9℃. The method to measure normal body temperature is to measure it once around 8 to 9 in the morning, around 15:00 in the afternoon, and around 20:00 in the evening. Measure it for several days in a row and take the most stable value as the normal body temperature. A normal person's body temperature fluctuates slightly within 24 hours, generally not exceeding 1°C. Under physiological conditions, it is slightly lower in the morning and slightly higher in the afternoon or after exercise and eating. The body temperature of the elderly is slightly lower, and that of women is slightly higher before menstruation or during pregnancy. Generally, women who are preparing for pregnancy will measure their body temperature daily to observe their basal body temperature.
