Mycobacterium tuberculosis has a characteristic that its cell wall contains lipids and is sensitive to ethanol, dying within 2 minutes in 70% ethanol. Therefore, the sputum of tuberculosis patients can be sterilized by soaking it in alcohol.

2. Correct posture for coughing up phlegm

Coughing up phlegm is a technical job. If the posture is correct, you will feel comfortable both physically and mentally. If the posture is wrong, the phlegm will not go up or down, and will be stuck in the throat, which is so uncomfortable that you will feel suffocated. So, what are the “tricks” for spitting?

1. Let the baby lie on his side (adults can sit), and the person who is spitting out the phlegm should put five fingers together and slightly move them inward to make the palm hollow.

2. Use appropriate force to pat the baby's back, sides and chest from bottom to top and from outside to inside. When taking pictures, be careful to avoid bones, heart, and protruding parts such as zippers and buttons of clothes.

3. Pat one side and then the other side. Pat each side for 3 to 5 minutes. Encourage the baby to cough up phlegm while patting. You can demonstrate to the baby.

4. Let your baby drink more water to help discharge phlegm. Also, please note that babies cannot spit, so when they cough up phlegm into their mouths, use a tissue to scoop out the phlegm to prevent them from swallowing it again.

Except for infants and young children, anyone who cannot cough up phlegm can learn this skill through practice! As for those who cannot learn, they can directly enjoy the treatment of infants and toddlers.

1. People who need to clear up phlegm should sit down (or lie prone with knees bent), with their feet on the ground, the body slightly leaning forward, and hugging a pillow with both hands to help the diaphragm rise.

2. Take several deep and slow abdominal breaths. In short, your stomach, not your chest, will contract or expand when you breathe. Take a deep breath and hold it at the end. Then purse your lips (pout) and breathe slowly through your mouth as much as possible (lower your costal arch and let your abdomen drop).

3. Take another deep breath and hold your breath for 3 to 5 seconds. Lean forward and cough 2 to 3 short and powerful times from the chest. Open your mouth and cough out phlegm. Contract your abdominal muscles when coughing, or press your upper abdomen with your hands to help coughing.

4. Changing body position frequently helps to cough up phlegm.
