Are there any side effects of injecting serum

Many friends will use serum injections to prevent and treat various diseases. Many people will choose to inject serum after being bitten by animals. So does injecting serum have any side effects? The answer is yes, but the side effects vary from person to person and are related to personal constitution. The side effects of serum injections mostly manifest as allergic shock and serum sickness. For details about serum and related side effects, please see the following content.

1. Anaphylactic shock: It may occur suddenly during the injection or within a few minutes to tens of minutes after the injection. The patient suddenly becomes depressed or irritable, turns pale or flushed, experiences chest tightness or shortness of breath, breaks out in cold sweats, feels nausea or abdominal pain, has a rapid and weak pulse, and has a drop in blood pressure. In severe cases, the patient may fall into a coma or collapse. If not treated promptly, the patient may die quickly. Mild cases can be relieved by injecting epinephrine; severe cases require fluid and oxygen infusion, pressor drugs to maintain blood pressure, and anti-allergic drugs and corticosteroids for emergency treatment.

2. Serum sickness: The main symptoms are urticaria, fever, swollen lymph nodes, local edema, and occasionally proteinuria, vomiting, and joint pain. Erythema, itching, and edema may occur at the injection site. The disease usually occurs 7 to 14 days after injection and is called the delayed type. There are also cases where the disease occurs 2 to 4 days after injection, which is called the accelerated type. Serum sickness should be treated symptomatically, using calcium supplements or antihistamines, and usually recovery can be achieved within a few days to a dozen days.

Human blood is composed of formed elements and intangible components. White blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets are formed elements, and serum is the intangible component in the blood. The white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and other visible components in the blood can be observed under a microscope. Serum is the invisible component after the fibrinogen is removed. It is slightly yellow and transparent in color.
