What to do if your hands are hurt by the spicy peppers

When cooking at home, everyone may have had this experience: after cutting peppers, your hands feel as if they were burned by fire, hot and spicy, and really uncomfortable. At this time, some people may rinse with cold water or wipe it off with a towel, but this can only slightly relieve the pain and cannot completely solve the problem. Faced with such a problem, many people don’t know what to do. Let’s take a look at why peppers are spicy and how to solve it.

Why is chili pepper spicy?

The substance that produces the spicy taste in chili peppers is a type of capsaicin, which is collectively called capsaicin. When cutting peppers, capsaicin sticks to the skin, causing the capillaries to dilate, resulting in redness and heat of the skin, and accelerating the local metabolic rate. At the same time, it will stimulate the pain nerves, which is why we usually feel burning hands. It is generally believed that this is caused by capsaicin causing chemical changes in the nerve endings of the skin.

The non-irritating method is as follows:

1. Capsaicin is soluble in ethanol and alkaline aqueous solutions, but insoluble in cold water. In industry, capsaicin is extracted from chili peppers using edible alcohol as an extractant. Therefore, based on this principle, in life, you can apply alcohol to dissolve the capsaicin on your hands. After cutting peppers, you can wipe your hands in one direction with an alcohol cotton ball, then wash your hands with clean water, and then dry them. Do this three times until the symptoms are relieved. You can also scrub your hands with white wine and then rinse them with clean water, and the stinging pain will immediately go away.

2. You can also wash your hands with a small amount of vinegar. This is because vinegar is acidic and can neutralize capsaicin. If there is no medical alcohol or vinegar, washing your hands with hot water is also a good idea, because capsaicin will produce irritating evaporation under high temperature. Although it is not as effective as alcohol and vinegar, it is worse than cold water.

3. Finally, let me tell you a method. When cutting peppers, you can press the peppers with the tips of your fingers instead of pinching them with your fingernails. This way, your hands will not be easily burned by the spiciness.

Method 1:

Precautions:

1. Wash your hands with cold water before and after cutting peppers

2. Wear medical gloves when cutting

3. Rub your hands with sesame oil beforehand

Post-processing:

1. Put your hot hands on the fire to warm them up. This is a classic common sense and it works.

2. Soaking in salt water or vinegar can relieve

3. Soak in herbal tea leaves for 2 minutes to relieve the burning sensation

4. Apply medicated toothpaste to the affected area

5. Rub the affected area with one or two drops of sugar and water

6. Wash with ice water. First rinse with cold water, then apply Fengyoujing to the red, spicy and painful area, and it will be fine after a while.

Method 2:

How to solve the problem of being burned by hot peppers:

1. Wash with vinegar, because vinegar can neutralize the spiciness of peppers. I heard that using white wine will be more effective

2. Apply toothpaste. It will make you feel more comfortable.

3. Wash your hands with cold water and a little salt, soak them for a while, and then air dry them.

4. Use aloe vera gel! Last time, I was cutting peppers and my hands were almost swollen from the spiciness. After applying it, the pain went away in a few seconds.

How to avoid the pain of cutting peppers:

1. When cutting peppers, wash them and cut them open directly. As long as you don't touch the center of the pepper, it won't be spicy.

2. Cover your hands with a plastic bag or plastic wrap before cutting the pepper.

3. Apply a little oil on your hands before cutting vegetables, so that the spicy sauce will not directly contact your skin.
