Allergic to peanuts

Allergic to peanuts

Peanuts are something we eat often, and there are many ways to eat them. Peanuts contain a lot of protein and various vitamins needed by the human body, and are very rich in nutrients. Peanuts are very popular, especially when drinking. They are delicious as a side dish, but some people will experience allergic symptoms after eating peanuts.

What are the symptoms of a peanut allergy?

Symptom 1: Respiratory system symptoms

Peanuts contain a large amount of protein, some of which are foreign proteins, which are irritating to people with allergies. The first reaction of peanut allergy is in the respiratory system. People with allergies will develop coughs, asthma, etc. if they eat a small amount of peanuts. Especially for those who have asthma, the symptoms will be more severe if they are allergic to peanuts.

Symptom 2: Acute edema

People with more severe peanut allergies may also experience edema throughout the body, with the most serious edema in the face and throat. This is also the reason for the high mortality rate of peanut allergies. Severe peanut allergies can cause acute throat edema, leading to difficulty breathing, suffocation, shock, and life-threatening.

Warm reminder: Since peanut allergies are rapid-onset allergic reactions, the onset time is within half an hour from eating. Although the allergens are easier to identify, the risk is higher due to the rapid onset. Peanut allergies can be triggered by even the smallest doses. Allergies are characterized by severe symptoms including anaphylactic shock. Characteristic symptoms lead to severe swelling, heart failure, difficulty breathing, circulatory collapse and ultimately death.

How to self-diagnose whether you are allergic to peanuts

If you suspect you have a peanut allergy, you can confirm it through an allergy test. During a skin test, proteins are inserted directly under the skin, which can cause a rash if there is a reaction. In addition, blood tests can also be used to measure the level of immunoglobulin E in the blood.

What to do if you are allergic to peanuts

1. Anti-allergic treatment

The relative contents of Ara h1 and Arah 3 in peanuts in my country are lower than those in foreign peanut varieties. Therefore, there are fewer peanut allergies in my country. Ara h1 and Ara h3 subunits in peanuts are the most allergenic. If you have received anti-allergic treatment and taken similar antihistamines, you can also undergo nebulization treatment, which can treat allergies.

2. Desensitization treatment

In addition to using drugs for desensitization, some patients now adopt the method of "fighting poison with poison". This method does not allow patients to eat large doses of foods that may cause allergies at one time, but rather a gradual approach. However, this method still needs to be determined by a doctor based on individual physical condition. The researchers also reminded that this is only a preliminary research result and citizens should not try this treatment themselves. Some patients have strong reactions and will have allergic reactions after eating just a little bit, so this method will not work.

3. Vitamin C treatment

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can remove free radicals in the body, enhance the functions of various organs, and enhance the activity of immune enzymes. It has a clearing effect on peanut foreign proteins that enter the body and has a symptom-clearing and preventive effect on peanut allergies.
