How to use iodine disinfectant

Iodine-containing disinfectant is an external-use medicine that is more common in hospitals. The frequency of personal use is generally lower, but everyone also needs to have a certain understanding of iodine-containing disinfectant. Iodine tincture disinfectant is mainly used to disinfect external injuries such as burns, abrasions, and knife wounds. This can prevent the injured area from being infected by bacteria and prevent further inflammation.

Introduction to Iodine Disinfectant

Iodine tincture disinfectant is a chemical drug, which is an indeterminate combination formed by the combination of iodine and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. Since iodine-containing disinfectant contains a large amount of iodine, the color of the disinfectant is generally purple-black. When we go to the hospital for medical treatment, we often see the iodine tincture used by the doctor, which is light brown in color. That is because iodine tincture is an iodine disinfectant that has been diluted with alcohol. It has a lower concentration, so the color is lighter.

Application of iodine disinfectant characteristics

Iodine is very effective in disinfecting common injuries such as burns, frostbite, knife wounds, abrasions, and bruises. Compared with alcohol, iodine causes less irritation and pain, is easily accepted by patients, has a wide range of uses and definite effects, and has basically replaced skin and mucous membrane disinfectants such as alcohol, mercurochrome, iodine, and gentian violet. In addition, low-concentration iodine tincture is a light brown solution that is not easy to stain clothing.

Use of iodine disinfectant

First of all, everyone should understand that iodine tincture disinfectant is an external-use medicine and is strictly prohibited for oral administration. It can be used directly on human skin and will not cause harm to human skin. However, it should be noted that iodine tincture disinfectant with a lower concentration should be used to avoid causing harm to the human body. This is because iodine tincture is still somewhat irritating to the human body. If the concentration is high, it will also harm human health. Generally speaking, the concentration of medical iodine disinfectant is usually 1%, which is sufficient for direct use on human skin. In addition, iodine tincture disinfectant can also be used to treat stomatitis. We can directly use twice-diluted iodine tincture disinfectant to gargle, which has an excellent disinfection effect on the treatment of stomatitis. During surgery, medical equipment can be disinfected and soaked in 3% iodine disinfectant, and the surgical site can also be disinfected.

Precautions for using iodine disinfectant

Iodine-containing disinfectants are unstable, especially dilute solutions, which are more likely to evaporate. Therefore, try to prepare the iodine-containing disinfectant before use to prevent it from being ineffective due to premature preparation. Similarly, iodine-containing disinfectants should also be placed in low temperature and dim light conditions to prevent volatilization. Containers for disinfectants should be made of glass as much as possible to avoid contact with active metals.
