What are the symptoms of acute laryngitis in children?

Children are actually very susceptible to acute laryngitis. The symptoms are usually an acute onset, hoarseness, and a hollow sound when coughing. The condition worsens especially at night. Children may also have fever and refusal to eat.

1. Barking cough

Generally speaking, acute laryngitis is manifested by hoarseness and dry cough, with a "kong-kong-kong" sound when coughing, like a barking dog. Subsequently, due to the development of edema in the subglottic area, inhalation becomes difficult and accompanied by laryngeal sounds. As the condition gradually worsens, significant inhalation dyspnea may occur.

2. The condition worsens at night

In the early stages of acute laryngitis in children, the children often do not cough much during the day and are in good spirits. However, the cough worsens at night, especially in the second half of the night or when they cry, so it is easily ignored. Parents need to be vigilant about this. This is because the baby's throat muscles relax when he sleeps, and secretions can easily block the throat.

3. Fever and refusal to eat

Some babies with acute laryngitis may also have varying degrees of fever, but high fever is rare and most have mild to moderate fever. Due to laryngeal obstruction and hypoxia, children are often irritable, refuse to eat, and may even have cyanosis, concave depressions, congestion and swelling of the pharyngeal mucosa. The condition is particularly severe at night.

4. For pediatric laryngitis, pediatric acute laryngitis and other diseases, prevention is better than treatment.
