Using coconut oil as raw material, cocamidopropyl betaine is prepared by condensing it with N, N-dimethylpropylenediamine to generate PKO, which is then quaternized with sodium chloroacetate (prepared from monochloroacetic acid and sodium carbonate) in two steps, with a yield of about 90%.
