4 common treatments for ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is a complex disease, and its cause is not yet fully understood, which makes treatment difficult. Generally speaking, surgery is the first method used for ovarian cancer, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, a comprehensive treatment plan will also be developed based on the development of the disease. The main methods are as follows:

Surgery

Surgery refers to the direct removal of all cancerous tissues. This surgery is more effective. The scope of ovarian cancer surgery must be determined according to the stage of the tumor. It often requires the simultaneous removal of the ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tubes. After that, the patient will be unable to have children.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy for ovarian cancer is usually administered intravenously, once every 3 to 4 weeks, for a total of six months to a year. Chemotherapy mainly uses drugs to slow down the division of cancer cells, and then cooperates with other methods for further treatment. Generally speaking, most patients with advanced ovarian cancer have a good response to chemotherapy. In addition, chemotherapy sometimes has a relatively large toxic reaction to the human body, and patients may experience nausea or hair loss.

Radioimmunotherapy

Like chemotherapy, radiotherapy is used only when ovarian cancer has become more serious. When radiotherapy is used, it is only used when the first two methods are ineffective. It has greater side effects. For example, the skin in the treatment area often has sub-burn-like changes due to radiation exposure, which gradually disappear after stopping treatment. In addition, side effects such as fatigue, nausea and diarrhea may also occur.

Chinese medicine treatment

It is generally suitable for patients in the advanced stage. Due to the rapid growth of the tumor, many treatment methods are no longer applicable to patients with advanced ovarian cancer. Conservative treatment with traditional Chinese medicine can effectively improve the patient's quality of life.
