What are the differences between tinea pedis and athlete’s foot?

Tinea pedis and athlete's foot are two concepts that people often hear in daily life. Since both diseases occur on the feet and the symptoms are similar, many people think that tinea pedis is athlete's foot. In fact, these two diseases are not exactly the same. Generally speaking, athlete's foot is a systemic disease with mild symptoms and can be cured by general treatments. Tinea pedis is an infectious disease with relatively large complications and is relatively difficult to treat!

Beriberi

Beriberi is a systemic disease caused by a lack of vitamin B1 in the human body. According to the symptoms of the disease, it can be divided into: abnormal sensation, allergy, dullness, decreased sense of touch and pain, muscle soreness, decreased muscle strength, difficulty walking, and "dry type" with multiple peripheral neuritis as the main manifestation; "wet type" with edema of the limbs, whole body and internal organs and serous exudation as the main manifestation. Most patients present with subacute onset and mild illness. The treatment for this disease is mainly oral or injection of vitamin B1.

Athlete's foot

Tinea pedis, also known as athlete's foot, is a contagious skin disease of the foot. It is very itchy when it occurs, and may even crack and fester, turning into pain and erosion. This disease is stubborn and has a long course. Currently, there are many people suffering from tinea pedis. The best way to prevent tinea pedis is to avoid contact with the patient's feet or objects contaminated by the patient. Shoes, socks, foot basins and bathhouse floors used by patients may contain pathogenic fungi, so attention should be paid. If tinea pedis is not treated in time, it may spread to other parts of the body, such as causing tinea manuum and onychomycosis. Sometimes, due to scratching due to the itchiness, secondary bacterial infection may occur, which may cause serious complications.

What should I pay attention to when treating tinea pedis?

First, you must persist in taking the medication. Athlete's foot is a chronic infection in which fungi grow and multiply in the stratum corneum and require long-term medication to kill it.

Second, don’t use medicine indiscriminately. The use of medication should be based on the specific conditions of the lesion. Tinctures should not be used on ulcerated areas, and ointments should be used on thickened skin and cracks. Some people use corticosteroid ointments such as Fuqingsong to treat athlete's foot, but the result is that the athlete's foot spreads more and more. If the broken thing is leaking water, you should go to the hospital and have the doctor give you appropriate treatment based on the specific situation. Never handle it on your own. Some people crush aspirin tablets into powder and sprinkle it between eroded toes, resulting in ulcers and long-term pain.

Third, when tinea pedis develops a secondary infection and acute inflammation occurs locally, it cannot be treated as general tinea pedis and the secondary infection should be dealt with first. Anti-inflammatory drugs can be applied locally, and systemic antibiotics can be applied if necessary, and adequate rest should be given.
