What is the tonifying and draining technique of acupuncture

Acupuncture is a relatively traditional treatment method in my country. According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, when the human body becomes ill, different symptoms will appear in the body. Due to different causes of the disease, the body will experience symptoms such as cold, heat, deficiency, and excess. Acupuncture can treat these symptoms. Tonifying and draining are the treatment methods of acupuncture. Tonifying or draining is a treatment method in traditional Chinese medicine.

1. Acupuncture is a treatment method

It is an important external factor that promotes the transformation of the disease towards recovery. However, in order to achieve the therapeutic purpose of tonifying the deficiency and purging the excess, the qi transformation function (internal cause) of the internal organs must also be used. Therefore, reasonable tonifying and purging techniques, in addition to being based on different conditions, constitutions, ages, emotions, climates, environments and other factors, must also pay close attention to the principle of tonifying the deficiency and purging the excess and organically combine it with the current condition. Practice has shown that excessive (overdose technique) or insufficient (insufficient dose technique) tonifying or purging acupuncture may lead to ineffectiveness or even worsen the condition, and such cases are not uncommon.

2. Acupuncture is a method of using needles to achieve the purpose of tonifying deficiency and relieving excess.

"Lingshu Nine Needles and Twelve Origins" said: "The nine needles are the best for treating deficiency and excess. Needles are used for tonifying and draining." Tonifying refers to a method that can inspire the body's positive energy and restore low functions; draining refers to a method that can drain pathogenic factors and restore hyperactive functions to normal. In their long-term medical practice, ancient doctors created and summarized many acupuncture tonification and drainage techniques.

3. Tonic method is used for various deficiency syndromes.

The twisting angle is small, the force is light, the frequency is slow, the time is short, the thumb faces forward, and the index finger faces backward; when lifting and inserting, start shallowly and then deep, insert heavily and lift lightly, with a small amplitude, slow frequency, and short time, with insertion as the main focus; insert the needle slowly and remove it quickly; the needle tip follows the direction of the meridian and pierces along the meridian; the needle is inserted when the patient exhales and removed when the patient inhales; press the needle hole to close after the needle is removed. These are all things that need to be paid attention to when performing tonifying acupuncture on patients.

4. The purgative method is applicable to various types of evidence.

The twisting angle is large, the force is heavy, the frequency is fast, the time is long, the thumb is backward, and the index finger is forward; when lifting and inserting, first deep then shallow, insert lightly and lift heavily, with a large amplitude, fast frequency, and long time, with lifting as the main focus; insert the needle quickly and remove it slowly; the needle tip should face the direction of the meridian and pierce against the meridian; the needle should be removed when the patient exhales and inserted when the patient inhales; there is no need to press and close the needle hole when removing the needle, the needle hole can also be shaken to enlarge it. These manipulations have a very good therapeutic effect on patients with empirical evidence.
