How long can a restored tooth last?

How long can a restored tooth last?

After many people have their bad teeth filled by the dentist, they usually ask the dentist how long the filled teeth can be used. This question is really difficult to answer. There are many factors that affect how long a restored tooth can be used. The materials used when the patient fills the tooth, the degree of damage to the tooth cavity, and the patient's protection of the teeth in life will all affect the length of time the teeth can be used. And after the teeth are filled, care in daily life is very important.

Factor 1

The specific condition of the customer's teeth, i.e. the degree, scope, location of tooth damage and the shape of the cavity. If the tooth is slightly damaged and covers a small area, you only need to remove the corrupted and necrotic tissue in the hole and prepare the hole shape, then you can perform a permanent filling, which can be used for many years. If the tooth is severely damaged or the hole is in a bad shape, the filling will easily fall off. Especially for dead pulp teeth that have undergone endodontic treatment, due to the loss of blood supply, the tooth's toughness and compressive strength decrease, and the texture becomes brittle. When biting hard objects, it is easy to cause tooth fracture and filling loss, resulting in filling failure and often tooth extraction.

Factor 2

The timing of filling a tooth is closely related to the extent of tooth decay, the location and the shape of the cavity when the customer visits the doctor.

Factor 3

Different materials have different adhesion to the tooth cavity.

Factor 4

When filling a tooth in the front tooth, if the cavity is limited to caries, and the cavity shape is good, shallow, and not on the adjacent surface of the tooth, you only need to remove the decayed tissue in the cavity, prepare the cavity shape, disinfect it thoroughly, and fill the cavity with permanent filling materials. The tooth filled in this way should be usable for life.

Factor Five

The customer's own maintenance: after a tooth is damaged, its integrity is destroyed, and its function can only be partially restored after filling. Therefore, the occlusal function cannot be compared with that of normal teeth, especially for teeth that have undergone endodontic treatment. You should be more careful when using them, avoid biting hard food, pay attention to oral hygiene, and prevent the occurrence of secondary caries.

Things to note after tooth filling

1. Within two or three days after the filling, do not eat on the filled side to avoid tooth fracture or filling material falling off, because most filling materials take some time to harden and fix.

2. Strictly follow the doctor's instructions. Different dental filling materials require different attention. For example, for silver-mercury materials, you cannot eat within 2 hours after filling; for resin materials, you cannot use a hard-bristled toothbrush within one week.

3. You may experience slight discomfort and pain after filling a tooth, which will generally disappear on its own. If the pain symptoms worsen, you should seek medical attention promptly.

4. For teeth with severe caries and large areas of defects, filling alone is not enough. You should protect the affected tooth crown in time according to the doctor's advice to prevent the crown from breaking.

5. Go for follow-up consultation promptly at the time agreed upon by the doctor.

6. Develop good oral hygiene habits and brush your teeth after meals. If conditions permit, you can use an electric toothbrush (provided that the teeth are well filled). Use it with dental floss to effectively clean dental plaque and prevent oral diseases.

7. The latest research finds that grape seeds can make our filled teeth stronger.
