Is erythromycin ointment effective for rhinitis?

Is erythromycin ointment effective for rhinitis?

Erythromycin ointment is a common anti-inflammatory topical medicine in daily life. Erythromycin ointment has a certain anti-inflammatory effect. It can be used for bacterial skin infections and for the treatment of rhinitis. It can treat and relieve rhinitis, prevent complications caused by rhinitis, keep the inside of the nasal cavity moist, and prevent it from drying out. It is very effective in treating rhinitis.

Can erythromycin ointment treat rhinitis?

1. From a pharmacological point of view, the main ingredients of erythromycin are antibiotics, and they all have certain antibacterial and anti-infection effects. If the patient's rhinitis is caused by bacterial infection, the above-mentioned folk remedies may have a relieving effect. Because this recipe helps remove nasal scabs, keeps the nasal cavity moist, and can play a certain anti-infection role.

2. It should be noted that erythromycin or tetracycline eye ointment can only control inflammation of the nasal mucosa and has no effect on allergic rhinitis.

At the same time, if a patient with rhinitis has pus in the frontal sinus, applying eye ointment will not only fail to cure the rhinitis, but may aggravate the condition.

Moreover, if the ointment is applied to the nasal cavity and inhaled into the digestive system through the mouth, it may cause certain damage to gastrointestinal function.

Self-treatment with medication may lead to drug resistance due to improper dosage, and even cause drug-induced rhinitis, which is chronic rhinitis caused by improper use of nasal medication. Therefore, it is not recommended that patients try this remedy on their own.

3. It is recommended that patients with rhinitis seek medical attention promptly to identify the type of rhinitis and then take targeted treatment measures. In addition, if there is dust or irritating gas in the working environment, you can wear a mask or mask for protection to avoid inducing or aggravating the condition.

Clinical manifestations

(1) Nasal congestion

Nasal congestion is characterized by intermittent nature. Nasal congestion is relieved during the day, in hot weather, while working or exercising, but is aggravated at night, when sitting still or in cold weather. Another characteristic of nasal congestion is its alternation. When lying on your side, the lower nasal cavity is blocked, but the upper nasal cavity is well ventilated. Due to nasal congestion, there may be occasional symptoms such as decreased sense of smell, headache, dizziness, and nasal speech.

(2) Excessive tearing

It is often mucous or mucopurulent, occasionally purulent. Purulence often occurs after seasonal infection.

(3) Decreased sense of smell

It is mostly caused by two reasons. One is that the nasal mucosa is swollen and blocked, and the airflow cannot enter the olfactory area. The other is that the olfactory mucosa is stimulated by chronic inflammation for a long time, and the olfactory function is reduced or disappears.

(4) Headache and dizziness

Chronic sinusitis is often manifested by a feeling of heaviness in the head.

(5) Systemic manifestations

Most people experience headaches, loss of appetite, fatigue, memory loss and insomnia.
