What are the reactions to rabies vaccine

In life, it is a common phenomenon for people to keep pets, and the pets they keep are varied, from ordinary cats and dogs to turtles, lizards and so on. However, it is often the case that due to improper breeding methods or when the animals are exposed to strong external stimulation, they may cause a certain degree of harm to the human body, such as scratches or bites. Family members with children need to pay special attention. Generally speaking, rabies vaccination is a general term that is not just for dogs. The main purpose is to prevent viruses in animals from causing harm to humans.

First of all, let me tell you under what circumstances you need to get vaccinated against rabies. The rabies virus can only exist in mammals, so in theory, it is recommended to get vaccinated against rabies if you are bitten or scratched by a mammal. Common mammals include dogs, cats, mice, and bats. It is recommended to get vaccinated against rabies after being bitten by the above animals. Poultry, fish, insects, turtles, snakes, and lizards will not be infected or transmit rabies, so you do not need to get vaccinated against rabies if you are bitten by the above animals.

Generally, we recommend that after being bitten by a dog, you should go to a nearby medical institution immediately to treat the wound and receive the rabies vaccine. If the injury site is still far away from the nearest medical institution, it is recommended that the bitten person directly use iodine to disinfect the wound. If there is no iodine, you can also use soap solution to clean the wound, and then go to a medical institution to receive the rabies vaccine.

The time for rabies vaccination can be divided into two situations according to different rabies vaccines. The first is the four-injection method, with two injections on 0 days, the third injection on 7 days, and the last injection on 21 days; the second is the five-injection method, with the first injection on 0 days, the second injection on 3 days, the third injection on 7 days, the fourth injection on 14 days, and the last injection on 28 days.

Within two months after receiving the rabies vaccine, you should avoid eating sour, spicy and other irritating foods, drinking alcohol and tea. Some people will feel sleepy or the injection site will become red, swollen and a little painful after receiving the rabies vaccine. This is a normal reaction after vaccination. You just need to pay attention to get more rest and apply hot water to the injection site when taking a bath, and the symptoms will ease by themselves.

One month after receiving the last rabies vaccine, it is recommended to go to the outpatient clinic of a nearby medical structure and ask the doctor to issue an application form to check whether your body has produced antibodies. A positive test result proves that antibodies have been produced through passive immunization.

When a patient is bitten by a dog or other mammal on the head, neck, hands, or external genitalia, or the bite wound is serious, or the patient is bitten by a bat, all of the above situations are considered level 3 exposure. It is recommended to inject rabies immunoglobulin or anti-rabies serum immediately after receiving the rabies vaccine.
