Can physiological diarrhea be cured?

Physiological diarrhea is a common clinical disease, which is somewhat different from ordinary diarrhea. When treating, we must pay attention to distinguishing between physiological diarrhea and ordinary diarrhea. Physiological diarrhea is generally more common in infants and young children, and the symptoms are relatively obvious, which has a significant impact on the patient's body. This type of disease must be treated in a timely manner, with the right medicine for the right condition to avoid worsening of the diarrhea.

1. Physiological diarrhea

Physiological diarrhea is more common in infants under 6 months old. They appear bloated and often have eczema. They have diarrhea soon after birth and have frequent bowel movements a day, even more than ten times. The amount of stool each time is not necessarily large, and it contains a small amount of water and generally has no special fishy smell. Infants with physiological diarrhea usually have no other symptoms except increased frequency of bowel movements, good appetite, no vomiting, and their growth and development are not affected. After adding complementary foods, their bowel movements gradually return to normal.

2. Treatment

If breast milk is insufficient and diarrhea occurs after adding milk, you can switch to other brands of formula milk. If it still doesn't work, you can reduce the amount of milk and add appropriate amount of rice flour. If the weight gets worse after adding rice flour, stop adding it immediately. Continue to add formula milk, and do not choose iron-fortified milk powder (milk powder has additional iron added to it, which is for babies with iron deficiency anemia or premature babies). If you use cod liver oil drops to supplement vitamin AD, you can switch to concentrated vitamin D capsules (100,000 international units/pill, one pill per month) to alleviate physiological diarrhea. If the baby is fed with pure milk or breast milk and diarrhea occurs after adding complementary foods, stop feeding the baby. No complementary foods need to be added this month. Your baby will not develop picky eating or nutritional deficiencies due to the lack of complementary foods during this month.

3. Note

If physiological diarrhea is caused by artificial feeding, then just pay attention to adjusting the feeding habits; if physiological diarrhea is caused by breast milk, the fundamental solution is to change the milk. It usually works when changing to milk or other dairy products. Drug treatment cannot solve the fundamental problem.
