What is the reason for high serum uric acid?

What causes high serum uric acid? Usually, people with gout, arthritis or abnormal renal function will have high serum uric acid levels during examinations. However, many people do not have any symptoms, and their test reports also show that their serum uric acid is high. This situation is not common. This group of people need to be vigilant about the occurrence of high uric acid. The higher the blood uric acid level, the greater the chance of suffering from high uric acid.

Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism. Excreted from the body in urine by the kidneys. The uric acid content in a healthy adult is about 1.1g, of which about 15% is present in the blood. After the uric acid in the blood is filtered by the glomerulus, most of it is reabsorbed by the renal tubules. Uric acid is one of the important components of non-protein nitrogen in plasma. In severe kidney damage, uric acid in the blood can increase significantly. When the damage is mild, there is little change. Therefore, blood uric acid measurement is a sensitive indicator for diagnosing severe renal damage.

What is the cause of high serum uric acid?

1. Excessive intake of purine: High levels of uric acid in the blood are directly proportional to the purine content in food. 50% of RNA and 25% of DNA in the food we eat are excreted in the urine in the form of uric acid, which is one of the reasons for high blood uric acid levels. Strictly limiting purine intake can reduce serum uric acid levels to 60umol/L (1.0mg/dL), while the secretion of uric acid in urine can be reduced to 1.2mmol/d (200mg/d).

2. High blood uric acid is caused by excessive production of endogenous purine. Endogenous purine metabolism disorders are more important than exogenous factors. The de novo synthesis of purine from non-cyclic to cyclic forms requires 11 steps, during which abnormal enzymes can lead to excessive purine synthesis.

3. The reasons for high blood uric acid include other diseases: such as long-term fasting and diabetes, which often cause an increase in blood ketone bodies and excretion in the urine, competitively inhibiting the excretion of uric acid in the blood by the renal tubules, thereby increasing the uric acid concentration in the blood. Generally speaking, gout should be considered when uric acid exceeds the normal value. This is a metabolic disease, which, if not controlled, can cause problems in all systems of the body.

What to eat when blood uric acid is high

1. Be sure to eat foods with low purine content, such as: refined white rice, corn, steamed bread, noodles, soda crackers, cabbage, eggplant, kale, pumpkin, tomato, etc.

2. The reason why seafood, shellfish, lobster, oysters and other seafood, shellfish, and green algae cannot be eaten: because these foods are rich in polysaccharides, high protein, etc., these will increase the burden on the kidneys to decompose and increase uric acid, so they should not be eaten too much. Shanghai has excellent medical facilities.

3. Eat salt in moderation to avoid spicy food

Avoid eating foods with strong spicy flavors. Other people with hyperuricemia should choose more alkaline foods such as fresh vegetables and fruits, which have a diuretic effect and can promote the dissolution and excretion of urate.

4. Patients with high blood uric acid levels should drink more water to facilitate the excretion of uric acid and prevent stone formation.
