Blood pressure is an important factor that indicates a person's physical health, but some people are prone to high blood pressure problems, so they should receive timely treatment. Moreover, high blood pressure can easily cause other diseases, such as blood diseases or vascular diseases. No matter what disease it is, it is very serious, so what blood pressure should you take antihypertensive drugs? For primary hypertension, when the systolic blood pressure is greater than or equal to 140 mmHg and the diastolic blood pressure is greater than or equal to 90 mmHg, it is confirmed as hypertension and patients are advised to take antihypertensive drugs selectively to control blood pressure. For secondary hypertension, the cause needs to be identified and treated accordingly, rather than taking antihypertensive drugs. Primary hypertension generally requires non-drug treatment first. If non-drug treatment is not effective, antihypertensive drugs should be considered for further control. Patients with hypertension need to measure their blood pressure at home and register for follow-up in the outpatient clinic. Can high blood pressure be cured? Answer: It is difficult to cure. Secondary hypertension with clear causes is not mentioned here. This type of high blood pressure is caused by other diseases. After the cause is eliminated, the blood pressure may be effectively controlled. What we are going to talk about is hypertension for which no definite cause can be found, called primary hypertension. The high blood pressure in these patients may be related to hormonal changes, systemic vasoconstriction, and large blood volume, but it is not very clear what causes these changes. Only some risk factors can be identified: such as excessive salt intake, obesity, genetics, high mental stress, etc. Moreover, these changes that lead to high blood pressure are often irreversible. For example, once blood vessels throughout the body contract, it is difficult to recover on their own, and blood pressure can only be lowered by dilating blood vessels through the effect of antihypertensive drugs. Once you stop taking the medicine, the antihypertensive effect will disappear and the blood pressure will recur. Since the cause cannot be determined, there is no way to "cure the root cause". We can only control the controllable risk factors one by one, and on this basis, use drugs to help control blood pressure. Why take blood pressure medicine if it doesn't work? The harm of high blood pressure is basically caused by blood pressure being higher than normal. We cannot cure high blood pressure now, but we can prevent its harm to the body by lowering blood pressure to normal. Just like although we can’t kill a monster, we can lock it up to prevent it from hurting people. Antihypertensive drugs are the cage that locks up the monster called "high blood pressure". It is the most effective method so far to improve the quality of life of patients with hypertension and prevent complications. |
