Scrotal edema is not unfamiliar to many people, and this disease is very common in clinical practice. Many factors may cause scrotal edema. Newborns may also have scrotal edema, which is mainly caused by abnormalities of the urinary system. The symptoms of scrotal edema are relatively obvious, and treatment can be targeted according to the symptoms. Clinically, there are two main types of scrotal edema: congenital and acquired. In addition to infants and young children, adults may also have the problem of scrotal edema. Therefore, we must take a positive attitude towards the treatment of this disease. The treatment methods for different types of scrotal edema may also be different. 1. Definition Scrotal edema is a common urinary disease in newborns, with an incidence of 6%, and is often accompanied by hernia. In the scrotum, the testicles are surrounded by a cyst like a water bag, which is scrotal edema, also known as scrotal hydrops. The degree of edema depends on the amount of fluid accumulation, which can be as small as a testicle or as large as a papaya, with a capacity of one to two thousand cc. 2. Symptoms There will be swelling in appearance, or one side of the scrotum will be larger than the other, which is inconvenient and easy to get hurt. Sometimes it will be accompanied by swelling and pain. Excessive fluid accumulation may even affect the blood circulation of the testicles. Over time, it will cause testicular atrophy, affect the ability of the testicles to produce sperm in the future, and cause infertility. 3. Reasons Edema can be divided into congenital and acquired types, and the causes are as follows: Congenital scrotal edema: occurs in newborns because after the testicles descend into the scrotum, the channel between the abdominal cavity and the scrotum, the processus vaginalis, is not completely closed, causing ascites to flow into the scrotum, surrounding the testicles and forming congenital scrotal edema. Acquired scrotal edema: mostly occurs in adults. Local trauma, impact to the scrotum, radiation therapy to the scrotum and testicles, acute and chronic inflammation of the epididymis, tuberculosis invasion of the testicles and epididymis can all cause scrotal hydrops. In addition, men under the age of 40 who suddenly develop scrotal hydrops must consider testicular tumors because the stimulation of the tumor causes scrotal hydrops. In 10% of testicular tumors, symptoms first appear as scrotal edema. |
