How to treat nasal bone fracture?

Nowadays, many people are engaged in different sports, and often suffer from nasal bone fractures due to trauma or strong impact on the face. Patients with nasal bone fractures may be unconscious for a short time at first, and finally suffer from severe nasal bleeding and nasal congestion. Therefore, patients with nasal bone fractures must go to the hospital for a CT scan in time to determine the location of the fracture based on the CT and X-rays, and see what method can be used to repair the nasal bone fracture. It needs to be treated with nasal endoscopy to reposition the bones. You cannot move within one month, do not wear glasses, try not to sleep on your side, avoid pressing on your nose, keep your nasal cavity open, and take medication regularly.

What to do if your nose is fractured

Nasal bone fracture occurs after maxillofacial trauma and is often a combined maxillofacial injury. Because the nasal bone is thin and brittle, it is easy to fracture after external force. Patients have no special subjective symptoms, and some patients only have transient nasal pain. Due to the swelling of the nose and facial soft tissues, it is difficult to determine whether there is a fracture from the appearance of the nose. Some patients may experience symptoms such as nasal bleeding and nasal congestion. Clinical diagnosis generally requires a nasal bone CT scan, which is no longer commonly used because nasal bone X-rays cannot accurately determine the fracture site.

Some patients with nasal bone fractures may also have nasal septum fractures and nasal septum deviation, which affect nasal ventilation and the appearance of the nasal dorsum. Nasal bone fracture reduction and nasal septum correction surgery can be performed at the same time. The best time to reduce a nasal bone fracture is 8-10 hours after injury, and it must be done before the nose swells. Most patients miss this period because of the priority of complex trauma treatment. Generally, nasal bone fractures need to be treated within 7-10 days after the injury, after the swelling of the nose has subsided. At this time, callus has not yet formed at the fracture site, which is conducive to fracture reduction. Local hot compress can be applied 48 hours after injury to help reduce local swelling quickly.

Nasal bone fracture precautions

Nasal bone fracture reduction is generally performed under nasal endoscopy. In order to achieve a good reduction effect and relieve the patient's pain, the operation is performed under general anesthesia. For patients with nasal septum fracture, surgical correction can be performed at the same time. After reduction, packing of the anterior nasal cavity is beneficial to fix the free bone fragments of nasal bone fracture. It can usually be removed after 48-96 hours. The nose needs to be protected after the operation. Try not to touch the nose within one month to avoid collapse of the fracture site. A nose protection stent can be given if necessary. For patients who wear glasses, reduce the time they wear glasses after surgery. If you must wear glasses, try to choose lightweight frames.

After removing the packing material, pay attention to keeping the nasal cavity moist, avoid the formation of blood scabs in the nasal cavity, and try to reduce the intake of irritating foods.

During the recovery period after nasal bone reduction, if the nasal bone collapses or becomes deformed, you should go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible. If necessary, surgery can be performed again to correct it, so as to avoid the formation of callus and increase the difficulty of the next surgery.
