What is neurogenic damage

Neurogenic injury generally refers to the damage to the patient's peripheral nerves and nerve endings detected by electromyography, generally referring to bones, muscles and skin. When the disease occurs, patients often experience pain and swelling in the joints, which generally presents a symmetrical onset. There may also be alternating degrees of pain on both sides, and sometimes the speed of exchange is relatively fast. The duration of the illness is generally not particularly long. Certain symptoms of skin diseases often appear, often causing a burning sensation on the skin and causing symptoms such as rashes. Especially for noisy and stuffy environments, the patient is very sensitive and can easily relapse. The impact on human health is also very great.

Introduction to nerve endings

Nerve endings are the terminal parts of nerve fibers, which are distributed in various organs and tissues. According to their functions, they are divided into sensory nerve endings and motor nerve endings. Sensory nerve endings, also known as afferent nerve endings, receive stimuli from the outside world and the body. Motor nerve endings are called efferent nerve endings, which transmit nerve impulses to muscles and glandular tissues, causing them to produce movement and secretory activities.

Common injuries that occur when peripheral nerves are affected

1. Median nerve injury: Firearm injuries, glass cuts, knife injuries and machine injuries are more common, especially injuries to the digital nerves of the hand, which are branches of the median nerve. Lower rib fractures and forearm fractures may be associated with median nerve injury.

2. Femoral nerve injury: The femoral nerve originates from the lumbar plexus, descends along the surface of the iliacus muscle, passes through the inguinal ligament and the lateral side of the femoral artery 3-4 cm below it, and divides into anterior and posterior branches, innervating the sartorius muscle and quadriceps muscle. The cutaneous branch goes to the anterior thigh and the saphenous nerve to innervate the skin on the inner side of the calf. Femoral nerve injury is rare and is mostly a surgical injury. The main clinical manifestations after injury are knee extension disorder caused by quadriceps paralysis and sensory disturbance of the anterior thigh and inner side of the calf.

3. Radial nerve injury: The radial nerve is close to the bone in the middle and lower 1/3 of the humerus. When the humerus is fractured here, the radial nerve is easily damaged. Excessive callus growth or radial head dislocation can also compress the radial nerve, and careless surgery can also damage this nerve.
