Dangers of high blood sugar

High blood sugar is a relatively common condition. Short-term, one-time high blood sugar does not cause serious harm to the human body. For example, when you are under stress, emotionally excited, or highly nervous, you may experience short-term high blood sugar levels. Eating a large amount of sugar at one time may also cause short-term high blood sugar levels. Afterwards, blood sugar levels gradually return to normal. However, long-term high blood sugar can cause lesions in various tissues and organs throughout the body, leading to the occurrence of acute and chronic complications. Such as pancreatic failure, nutritional deficiency, dehydration, impaired renal function, neuropathy, electrolyte imbalance, decreased resistance, fundus lesions, etc.

What to do if blood sugar is high?

1. Control the total calories of your diet:

The total calories should be determined based on the patient's nutritional status, weight, age, gender and physical activity. The principle is to keep the patient's weight slightly below or within the standard weight range. Generally speaking, the daily calorie intake is 1500-1800 kcal, and fat people should reduce it to 1200-1500 kcal. Carbohydrates account for about 60% of the total calories, which is equivalent to 300-400 grams of staple food.

2. Dietary fiber foods:

High-fiber foods can slow down the decomposition and absorption of carbohydrates, which helps balance blood sugar. Vitamins must be sufficient, because reduced food intake can lead to insufficient supply of vitamins and trace elements, so it is advisable to eat more fresh vegetables. Fruits contain a lot of fructose, so it is best to avoid eating them when blood sugar is not well controlled. You can also take multivitamin and mineral tablets (pills) orally to supplement.

2. Strengthen proper exercise:

In the absence of any special diseases, patients with high blood sugar should exercise moderately to consume body fat and maintain a normal weight. Brisk walking is recommended. Reduce the stress of life and relax your body.

3. Regular inspection:

Check blood sugar and urine sugar regularly. Observe changes and seek specialist treatment if necessary.
