What causes weak legs

What causes weak legs

For those who do not exercise enough on a daily basis, if they suddenly engage in excessive physical labor or training, their legs will often become weak. At this time, their muscles will become sore and they will feel unable to use their strength. Generally speaking, from a physiological point of view, this is caused by excessive loss of body fluids in the exercise area and an imbalance of electrolytes in the body. In addition, if the body is deficient in calcium, it can easily cause symptoms of weak legs. Of course, if there is a joint movement injury, some sprains or other leg injuries, it will also cause symptoms of weak legs. In addition, if there is no softening, degenerative changes, etc., it is easy to cause such symptoms, which is also very harmful to health.

1. Joint sports injuries

① Ligament injury

The stability of the knee joint is relatively poor when it is slightly bent. If it is suddenly subjected to external force and causes eversion or inversion, it may cause damage to the medial and lateral collateral ligaments and cruciate ligaments. Partial rupture of the patellar ligament will make it difficult to lift the calf and cause "weak legs". Cruciate ligament injury can also lead to instability of the knee joint.

②Meniscus injury

Meniscus injury is a very common injury. When the lower limbs are weight-bearing, the feet are fixed, and the knee joints are slightly flexed, sudden excessive internal rotation or external rotation of the knee (such as in badminton, basketball and other sports) may cause meniscus tear.

After the meniscus is injured or diseased, there will be obvious difficulty walking on flat ground, sometimes joint pain, limited movement, etc.

2. Joint diseases

① Patellofemoral osteoarthritis and tibiofemoral osteoarthritis.

② Medial patellar synovial plica syndrome; patellar dislocation, more common in congenital patellar subluxation.

③ Loose bodies in the joints, accompanied by compression and clicking of the joints.

3. Degenerative changes

Degenerative arthritis of the knee

This is more common in middle-aged and elderly women, and will cause bone hyperplasia, also known as "bone spurs". When these stimuli and compress the soft tissues around the knee, the muscles will suddenly spasm and the joints will become weak. In severe cases, the knee may become varus deformed and cause medial pain, leading to "weak legs".

Chondromalacia patella

There is also a cartilage lesion between the patella and femur that occurs in young people, namely "patellar softening". Because the patellar cartilage surface becomes uneven, sometimes accompanied by congenital patellar dislocation, it will cause premature degeneration and defect of cartilage, resulting in symptoms of softening of the knee joint.

4. Other reasons

For example, quadriceps atrophy, such as long-term plaster immobilization of the lower limbs and hemilimb atrophy after stroke;

There are also psychological factors, which are more common in cases with a history of patellar fracture. People are always afraid of falling again and causing a fracture, which leads to weak legs.
