What is the treatment for cervical ligament calcification?

Calcification of cervical ligaments is a relatively serious cervical disease. Patients will obviously feel severe pain in the cervical spine. If not treated in time, the condition may further worsen. Calcification of the cervical ligaments can be treated through some exercises, such as lifting the shoulders and shrinking the neck. If you have problems with your cervical spine, you must take them seriously and rest in time. If the problem is serious, you need to go to the hospital for examination.

1. How to treat ligament calcification?

Neck exercise method: Neck guidance exercise sitting or standing. The sitting position is on a chair with a backrest. When standing, place your feet shoulder-width apart and put your hands on your hips. When practicing, keep your chest tucked in and your back straightened, look forward, focus on your Dantian, regulate your breathing, and then do the following movements.

Lift shoulders and shrink neck: slowly lift your shoulders and shrink your neck downward, inhale at the same time, use your mind to guide the air down to Dantian, then slowly lower your shoulders, naturally extend your head and neck, and slowly exhale to return to a neutral position. Repeat 7-9 times. This method can enhance the strength of the neck, shoulder and arm muscles, prevent and treat neck, shoulder and arm muscle soreness, and prevent cervical flexion and extension dysfunction.

Fight with the neck: slowly stretch the head and neck upwards, slowly sink the shoulders, at the same time slowly inhale to expand the chest, so that the air accumulates in the palm of your hand, then return the head, shoulders and chest to the neutral position, at the same time slowly exhale. Repeat 7-9 times. This method can enhance the strength of the neck muscles, prevent and treat neck and back pain caused by neck strain, prevent cervical flexion and extension dysfunction, and reduce fatigue of the neck soft tissue.

2. What is the anterior longitudinal ligament?

The anterior longitudinal ligament is the longest ligament in the human body and is located in front of the human spine. It starts from the occipital pharyngeal tubercle at the anterior edge of the foramen magnum and extends to the front of the first or second sacral vertebra, but does not enter the vertebral body. The anterior longitudinal ligament appears to be a long and wide fibrous band, which is very strong. Its fiber bundles are connected to the front edge of the vertebral body and the intervertebral disc, and have the function of limiting hyperextension of the spine. In tests on corpses, it did not break under a pressure of 600 to 700 pounds. Its function is to limit hyperextension of the spine. Calcification: The tissues of an organism become hard due to the deposition of calcium salts. For example, children's bones become adult bones through calcification, and tuberculosis lesions heal through calcification.

3. Types of calcification of the anterior longitudinal ligament

There are many types of this ligament calcification, and different types of patients may have different manifestations. Therefore, it is very important to understand the clinical manifestations and causes of ligament calcification. Only in this way can effective measures be taken for treatment. Clinically, calcification of the anterior longitudinal ligament of the cervical spine is far more common than ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the vertebral segment. On the lateral X-ray films of the cervical spine of people over the age of 50, about 80% can show this feature, of which about half occurs in the lumbar spine and the lowest incidence occurs in the thoracic vertebrae.
