What is the technique for massaging the cervical spine?

I believe that many friends have experienced cervical pain, most of which is caused by overwork. When cervical spondylosis is mild, you can relieve it by massaging it yourself, such as massaging the Baihui point, pressing the head, kneading the Fengchi point, etc. Massaging these points will have a good soothing effect on cervical pain, and you should also rest more.

In addition to the common symptoms of cervical spondylosis such as stiffness, hardness, and pain in the neck, nape, and back, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, blurred vision, etc. may also occur as the disease progresses. These hazards seriously affect people's health and bring great inconvenience to daily life. The consequences will be more serious if you suffer from sympathetic cervical spondylosis or myelopathy.

Sympathetic cervical spondylosis, if it affects the sympathetic nerves in the neck, may cause palpitations, chest tightness, stomach bloating, diarrhea, less or more sweating in the limbs, cold limbs, irritability, hot face, tinnitus, decreased vision, swollen eyes, tachycardia or bradycardia, and vasospasm or dilation of the blood vessels in both upper limbs and head and face. Cervical spondylotic myelopathy affects the spinal cord inside the cervical spine, causing weakness in the limbs, weak legs, muscle stiffness, difficulty walking, and even paralysis of the lower limbs, incontinence, and sexual dysfunction.

Five massage techniques for treating cervical spondylosis in traditional Chinese medicine

1. Massage Baihui

Use your middle or index finger to press the Baihui point in the center of the highest point on the top of your head, and massage it 20-30 times from light to heavy force.

Efficacy: Nourishes the brain and calms the mind, replenishes Qi and strengthens the body.

2. Press the head

Place the thumbs of both hands on the temples on both sides of the forehead, separate the other four fingers and place them on both sides of the head, and press and knead with both hands at the same time for 20-30 times.

Effect: Clears the brain, improves eyesight, and invigorates the spirit.

3. Massage Fengchi

Use the thumbs of both hands to press the Fengchi points on the same side (the depressions on both sides of the back of the neck), and use the other fingers to press and rub on both sides of the head for 20-30 times from light to heavy.

Efficacy: Dispel wind and cold, open the orifices and relieve pain.

4. Pinch the neck muscles

Raise your left (right) hand and place it behind your neck, with your thumb on the outside of the neck on the same side and the other four fingers on the opposite side of the neck muscles. Put your hands together, lift the neck muscles upward and then relax, and pinch along the Fengchi point downward to the Dazhui point 20-30 times.

Efficacy: Antispasmodic and analgesic, harmonizing qi and blood.

5. Press the Jianjing point

Use the tip of the left (right) middle finger to press the Jianjing point on the opposite side (at the midpoint of the line connecting the Dazhui and the acromion, on the shoulder muscle), then press from light to heavy for 10-20 times, alternating between the two sides.
