What are the symptoms of bile reflux?

Bile reflux is very common in some serious gastrointestinal diseases, and bile reflux poses a great threat to gastrointestinal health, so everyone should promptly determine whether it exists. Bile reflux can cause obvious discomfort symptoms, such as abdominal distension, heartburn, gastric bleeding, etc. The colic caused by some symptoms can make patients very uncomfortable, so early treatment is necessary.

Clinical symptoms

1. Abdominal distension: This is one of the main symptoms, manifested as abdominal fullness and discomfort, persistent burning sensation in the upper and middle abdomen, and may also manifest as pain behind the sternum, which may worsen after meals.

2. Heartburn: There is a burning sensation in the stomach, and some patients even have a burning sensation in the esophagus, often accompanied by belching, acid reflux, nausea, vomiting, intestinal rumbling, difficulty in defecation, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

3. Gastric bleeding: Patients with severe bile reflux gastritis may also experience gastric bleeding. Some patients have black stools, and some vomit blood.

4. Vomiting: Due to gastric emptying disorder, vomiting usually occurs in the evening or midnight, and some patients have blood in their vomit.

Diagnosis

Gastroscopy: It can be directly seen that there is a lot of gastric juice, which is grass green, and the gastric mucosa is congested, edematous, or eroded; the pyloric opening is open, and bile refluxes from the duodenum through the pylorus to the stomach. Pathological biopsy indicates gastritis.

Gastric aspirate test: insert a gastric tube to aspirate fasting and postprandial gastric juice, and measure the bile acid content in it. If the fasting basal gastric acid secretion (BAO) is less than 3.5mmol/h and the bile acid exceeds 30μg/ml, bile reflux gastritis can be diagnosed.

To treat bile reflux gastritis, please follow my steps:

1. Eat small and frequent meals: Eat 5-7 times a day, at regular times and in regular amounts. Eat small amounts at each meal and eat light food. Doing so can minimize bile secretion, reduce the burden on the liver and gallbladder, and use food to neutralize acidic substances in the stomach to reduce irritation.

2. Massage instead of medicine: Reduce the intake of chemical drugs. When stomach pain occurs, you can massage the area on the back corresponding to the stomach pain to comb the stomach meridian, and then press the thenar to astringe the gastric juice. After three days of persistence, you will find that your dependence on acid-suppressing drugs begins to subside.

3. Chinese medicine assistance: Chinese medicine believes that bile reflux is caused by spleen and stomach dysfunction, water stagnation in the stomach, and liver qi stagnation. You can use: 6g of Amomum villosum, 3 slices of ginger, 3 dates, and 8g of Bupleurum, one dose per day, decocted in water.

4. Mucosal maintenance: For gastric mucosal damage caused by long-term medication and bile corrosion, more gentle and effective methods should be adopted to repair it in time to avoid the deterioration of the lesions. Commonly used biological agents include sea cucumber chitosan, thymus protein, monkey fungus polysaccharide, etc.
