Scabies is a contact-transmitted skin disease caused by scabies parasitizing the epidermis of human skin. It can be transmitted through daily contact and sharing of daily necessities, and is highly contagious. Scabies is a type of mite that lives in the skin of humans and mammals. Those that live in humans are called human scabies, and those that live in animals and poultry are called animal scabies. They can also invade humans.

1. Traditional Chinese Medicine folk remedies for treating scabies

1. Oral administration:

Prescription 1:

Saposhnikovia divaricata, Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Forsythia suspensa, Ephedra sinica, Menthus alba, Chuanxiong, Angelica sinensis, stir-fried white peony root, Atractylodes macrocephala, Gardenia jasminoides, steamed rhubarb with wine, Glauber's salt, Gypsum, Scutellaria baicalensis, Platycodon grandiflorum, Licorice, and Talcum. Take two doses daily, decocted in water.

Prescription 2:

Take 2 grams each of Angelica sinensis, Rehmannia glutinosa, fried white peony root with wine, Astragalus membranaceus, and raw licorice, add two cups of water, boil for eight minutes, take at 2 hours after meals, one dose per day, boil and take in the morning and evening.

2. External use:

(1) The general treatment is to grind 6 grams each of Sichuan pepper, calomel, camphor, realgar, alum and mercury into fine powder; grind 100 maple seeds into powder and mix well with the powder; add 30 grams of Chinese tallow oil, dissolve and apply to the affected area. 30 grams each of walnuts and lard, and 3 grams of mercury are mashed into a paste and applied to the affected area. 10 grams of maple seeds (peeled), 3 grams of croton seeds (peeled), seven walnut kernels, and 6 grams of mercury, mash them into a paste and apply it to the affected area. 20 grams of sulfur, 20 grams of Tushenpi, 30 grams of Sophora flavescens, 30 grams of Cnidium monnieri, 30 grams of Phellodendron chinense, 30 grams of Dictamni bark, 30 grams of Kochia scoparia, 30 grams of Smilax glabra, 20 grams of Xanthium sibiricum, and 30 grams of Tribulus terrestris. If secondary infection occurs, add 30 grams of honeysuckle, 20 grams of wild chrysanthemum, and 30 grams of dandelion. If the infection is severe, use penicillin. Take one dose daily, decoct in water twice, mix well, and apply externally with warm water twice. Before treatment, take a bath with hot water and soap, then apply the medicine, starting from the neck below, first rubbing the skin lesions and then rubbing the entire body. A course of treatment is 4 consecutive days.

(2) In North China, a common method is to mix 100g of pig fat, 20g of sulfur powder, and 20g of pepper powder into a paste. Apply it externally once a day for 7 days as a course of treatment. 30g of realgar, 30g of stemona, and 30g of mugwort, decocted in water and used for external washing, once a day, 10 days as a course of treatment. Sulfur 50g, camphor 5g, Stemona 50g, borneol 2g, mash into powder, dissolve in 500mL 95% alcohol, filter after 24 hours. Warm the solution when using and apply to the affected area 3 times a day for 3 to 6 days. 60g of Kochia scoparia seeds, 20g of Zanthoxylum bungeanum, 60g of Sophora flavescens, and 30g of Stemona japonica, decocted in water and used for external washing, once a day for 7 consecutive days. Try not to take other medicines during the treatment.

(3) In the medical field, a relatively effective method is to use 90g of tung oil, 50g of sulfur, and 20g of Sichuan pepper. First, boil the tung oil, then grind the sulfur and pepper into powder, add them into the oil and fry for 10 minutes. Store in a bottle and apply to the affected area when needed. 10% Stemona tincture, 50g of Stemona, 500mL of alcohol, soak for 1 week, apply externally 2 to 3 times a day. 10 grams of Sophora flavescens, 10 grams of Dictamni bark, 30 grams of Stemona japonica, 10 grams of Toosendan fruit, 10 grams of Cnidium monnieri, 10 grams of pomegranate peel, 10 grams of Veratrum album, 20 grams of Gleditsia sinensis, 30 grams of Schisandra chinensis, 20 grams of sulfur, and 3 jin of white wine. Grind the above-mentioned medicines into coarse powder, soak them in wine, cover and seal for 1 week. Wipe your entire body with gauze dipped in medicated wine every night before going to bed for 10 days. If there is no improvement after 10 days, you should stop taking the medicine and seek medical attention.
