What are the causes of nosebleeds

Nosebleed is a common phenomenon in life. There are many reasons for nosebleed, such as trauma, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, etc. In addition, nasal septum disease is also an important cause of nosebleed. If there is a malignant tumor in the nasal cavity or throat, it is easy to cause ulceration and bleeding. If you get angry or the weather is dry in life, it is easy to cause such symptoms.

1. Local causes:

1. Trauma: Trauma of the nose and sinuses may be combined with fractures of the anterior cranial fossa or middle cranial fossa, damage to the anterior ethmoid artery or internal carotid artery, and generally cause severe bleeding, which is life-threatening. Blood vessels damaged during nasal or sinus surgery are not discovered in time or not properly treated, or the nose is picked or shaken forcefully. Severe sneezing, foreign objects in the nasal cavity, nasal intubation, and sudden changes in air pressure can damage the nasal mucosa and blood vessels and cause bleeding.

2. Nasal and sinus inflammation: Various nasal and sinus inflammations can cause bleeding due to mucosal lesions damaging blood vessels.

3. Nasal septum lesions: Various types of nasal septum deviation, nasal septum erosion, ulcer or perforation are common causes of bleeding.

4. Tumor: Malignant tumors of the nose, sinuses or nasopharynx may ulcerate and bleed. In the early stage, there will often be repeated small amounts of bleeding. In the late stage, large blood vessels will be damaged and may cause massive bleeding. Bleeding from benign vascular tumors such as nasopharyngeal angiofibroma and hemangioma is generally more severe. Therefore, for nosebleeds, not only heavy bleeding needs attention, but small amounts of bleeding should also be of higher concern. When a small amount of nose bleeding is found, the cause of the bleeding must be carefully investigated.

2. Systemic causes:

There are many systemic diseases that can cause nosebleeds, such as vascular sclerosis, hypertension, vitamin deficiency, blood disease, thrombocytopenia, etc. Therefore, when nose bleeding occurs, one cannot just look for the cause locally, but should also conduct necessary examinations of the whole body in order to treat the real cause.

For nosebleeds, if conditions permit, you should go to the hospital for a comprehensive examination to find out the cause of the nosebleed. Whether it is caused by local nasal cavity or systemic disease, the nosebleed can be stopped by timely treatment of the primary disease.
