What are corticosteroids and can they treat vitiligo?

Corticosteroids are currently used clinically to inhibit viruses, resist vitiligo, adjust the human immune system, and fight various skin diseases. They can increase adrenal hormones, increase pituitary secretions, and accelerate circulation throughout the body to achieve therapeutic effects and are very beneficial to the body.

Corticosteroids

Adrenal cortical hormones, abbreviated as corticosteroids, are the general term for hormones secreted by the pituitary gland that stimulate the secretion of the adrenal cortex by the adrenocorticotropic hormone. They all have steroid structures, so they are called corticosteroid hormones or steroid hormones. Corticosteroids can be divided into three categories according to their chemical structure and main physiological and pharmacological effects, namely mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids and nitrosocorticoids (including testosterone for male hormones and estrogen and progesterone for female hormones).

Mineralocorticoids are involved in mineral metabolism and regulate electrolyte balance in the body. Glucocorticoids have an important influence on glucose metabolism. Azocorticoids act on sexual organs and protein metabolism. They have different roles in clinical treatment.

Clinical Application

In clinical practice, we use corticosteroids, cytotoxic agents, and PUVA to treat vitiligo, which can achieve certain results. This may be because the therapeutic effect is achieved by inhibiting the body's local or systemic abnormal immune response.

It can be seen that the immune mechanism is not only involved in the pathogenesis of vitiligo, but also an important mechanism of the pathogenesis of vitiligo.
