The difference between dyshidrotic eczema and tinea manuum

If you are not a medical professional, it is difficult to distinguish between diseases with similar symptoms. Although some diseases may not seem very serious to people, it will be of no benefit to the disease if the wrong medicine is used during the treatment process. Dyshidrotic eczema and tinea manuum are very common diseases in daily life, and many people suffer from these two diseases. Let’s understand the difference between dyshidrotic eczema and tinea manuum.

1. Overview

There is a clear difference between dyshidrotic eczema and vesicular tinea pedis. The cause of tinea pedis is clear, which is caused by fungal infection; while the cause of dyshidrotic eczema is unknown, which may be related to factors such as mental stress, excessive sweating of hands and feet, fungal infection and allergic reaction. We need to pay attention and treat it with caution. Dyshidrosis is most often misdiagnosed as tinea manuum. Since the medication principles for these two diseases are completely different and have nothing in common, ringworm medicines are often misused, which aggravates the condition and causes unnecessary pain to patients. Patients should be aware of protecting themselves, think about what disease they might have, and then receive treatment. There are several differences between these two diseases:

2. Steps/Methods:

1. Skin lesions: Dyshidrosis mainly occurs as small blisters under the skin, ranging in size from millet to rice grains, with clear and transparent contents, each independent, usually not accompanied by desquamation, or only desquamation occurs after the blisters dry up in the later stages. Tinea manuum is usually first seen as desquamative patches, which gradually spread to the back of the hands and sometimes develop into tinea corporis-type lesions, with small papules or inconspicuous blisters on the edges.

2. The site of onset: Tinea manuum mostly occurs on the palms, and it occurs on one side first, and it takes a long time for the opposite side to develop. Dyshidrosis herpes mostly occurs on the sides of the fingers, and in severe cases it occurs on the palms, and both hands are often affected at the same time.

3. Without persistent antifungal drug treatment, the pathological tinea manuum will never disappear suddenly, while dyshidrotic eczema can suddenly alleviate or even disappear after a period of time. Although both diseases recur or worsen in the summer, tinea manuum persists in the winter, while dyshidrotic eczema is generally not seen in the winter.

4. For fungi, if the blisters are caused by tinea manuum, the pathogenic fungi can usually be found by taking the blister membrane for microscopic examination; however, tinea fungi will never be found in the blister membrane of dyshidrotic eczema. 5. Complications: People with tinea manuum often have tinea pedis and tinea unguium; patients with dyshidrotic eczema may not have these diseases. Of course, we must be cautious in this regard, because it is possible that the patient suffers from both tinea manuum and dyshidrotic eczema. When the two diseases occur at the same time, the doctor's experience and careful observation. Necessary and accurate test results become very important.

3. Notes:

If patients cannot distinguish between dyshidrotic eczema and vesicular tinea pedis, they should go to the hospital for treatment in time. It is best to consult a professional doctor before using some irritating drugs. Incorrect use of drugs not only brings great pain to patients, but may even endanger the patient's health and disease treatment.
