What sequelae will bone grinding leave?

Bone grinding is a type of cosmetic surgery that changes the shape of your face by grinding the bones on both sides of your cheeks. It can make your facial lines softer and achieve the effect you want. So it is still popular among many young people. But everything has its pros and cons. Although bone grinding surgery can make you look better. But it may also bring many sequelae, making you regret for the rest of your life.

1. Facial asymmetry

During the operation, it is impossible for the doctor to accurately calculate the width of the bone to be removed (grinded), and the human face itself is not completely symmetrical. If the doctor's skills are not up to standard or he is careless, the asymmetry of the width of the face on both sides will increase.

2. Postoperative hematoma

Any surgery involves a large number of blood vessels and nerves. Even if bleeding is fully stopped, it is easy to have oozing blood after the operation. Therefore, during surgery, the doctor will usually place a drainage tube to drain the blood from the wound. If the drainage tube is not placed in the right position or the hemostasis work is not done well, a large amount of blood stasis may accumulate on the face after the operation, causing hematoma.

3. Joint dislocation

Whether it is mandibular surgery or zygomatic bone surgery, the temporal joint will be affected. It is located near the temple and is the position where the chin is usually hung. Therefore, during the operation, the doctor has to hold the patient's chin firmly in order to keep the temporal joint tense. If he is not careful, it may cause dislocation of the joint, which is often called "dropping the jaw".

4. Facial numbness

The mental nerve can be easily injured during surgery on the mandible. This nerve directly controls the sensation of the lower teeth and lips. It is the main cause of postoperative pain. If it is pulled during surgery, it will cause temporary numbness of the lips after surgery; once it is damaged, it may cause permanent numbness.
